' laths firmly thereto while allowing them to therefor in a floor joist 7c and terminate in. a screwed rod n on which is screwed a nut bearing upon. a metal plate or washer 1) *at" the bottom-of the floor joist. It will be understood that with. an arrangementin which the cable passes through a floor joist,
as-shown in Fig.3, the laths a are free to slide toward each other when the cables I) are tightened in order to render the structure self-supporting independently of any supporting members, so thatif supporting members are provided they must be such as saldnecessary 7 out departure from the invention as will be understood, for example the strips, bands or cables may either serve theldouble purpose of a means of forcing the laths together and a connection for the several laths, or bands,
7 strips or cables may beemployed for connecting the laths in addition to bands,-strips or cables, which by being tightened force the laths toward each other. Wedges, springs, or other devices may be employed in any of the constructions described for taking up slack due to contraction and generallyv for adjustment due to shrinkage or other. causes.
What I claim is r 1. A portable building structure section constructed of": slats arranged side by side and so close together and in such relation to a'flexiblejconnection that ifcurved'or archedthejflexible connection will be put under stress and the abutting edges of the slats will. be caused to bear against each other, whereby the slats support each other,
sa-idsection embodying a binding cable backing the sameth-roughout the length thereof andwconfined thereto, said cable provided with adjustable end means for tightening the cablewith-respect to the section to force the'abutting edges of the slats toward each other, in combination with means to maintain the relative positioning ofthe section Copies of this patentniay be obtained for ;respect to the cable,
ends when the section is arched and thereby render it self supporting.
. 2. A portable building structure compris- ,m a section constructed of slats arranged vmovable thereon to permit positioning thereof during tightening of the cable when the section 1s archer, in combination with means to removably receive the ends of the section and maintain the relative positioning thereof when the section is arched and tightened and thereby render it self supporting. v
3. In a portable building such as described by claim 2, the slats being relatively movable longitudinally of the longitudinal backingcable in positioning themselves dur ing tightening of the cable when the section is arched, the cable having the end ad ustingmeans extending loosely through an end slat and abutting the same to tighten the section with respect thereto, in combination with means removably receiving the section ends and maintaining the lateral positioning thereof when the section is arched and thereby rendering it self supporting, said means constructed and arranged to permit relative vertical sliding movement of the section end during tightening of the cable.
