Be it known that I, HAROLD C. DwELLE,a

citizen of the United States, residing at Lex-` ingtominthe county of Davidson and State of North Carolina, have invented a new and useful Book, of which the following `is a specification.

i 'I his .invention relates to booksespecially designed for use in` keeping time in mills,

factories and the like, one ofits objects being to provide a book the leaves of which are made up of separate slipsseparat'ely removable and each of which has combined with it a duplicate and a memorandum stub, it being designed to retain `the duplicate for reference whiletheoriginal is to `be presented to the employee and contains spaces for the reception of data relative to the time employed, the amountdue, the place employed, and other data whereby the signature of the payee constitutes both an approval of the items entered as Well the payment of the amount With theforegoing and other `objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the inventionresides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described `and claimed, it. being understood that changes in the preciseembodiment of the invention herein disclosed,icanbe made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention..

Under the spaces provided for the recepi tionlof the numbers of the `mill and ofiice cards y is an elongated space 5 for the receptionofthe name ofthe payee and under this space 5 isanother space 6 forthe reception of the'nameiof the company and the words QTime card.` `Paye-roll, week` ending ,.to gether` with a space for the receptionof a date. Arranged under the space 5 and columns isa space 12 containing the word Occupation and opposite this space is a series of spaces 13 designated by the Yword Charges these spaces having different headings suchv as Cotton, Cloth-, .Fuel and Rent. In filling out a pay check such as d einthe space'12.` One ofthe' letters in the space 9` is checked to indicate thel depart'- ment in which the'payee works and the mill and iolfice card numbers are placed' in the proper spaces along the upper marginof the check. Each day of thefvveek, the time credited to the payee is entered in" the proper space, thetotal time' employed being placed in the space under the vheading Total time. The checks thusv collected at the office are kept together for ready r reference preferal bly as shown' in Figs. 3 `and 4.' l They are arranged'to form pages of a looseleaf-f'book,

the checks of each page being assembled in lapped relation, as shown particularly in Fig. .3, the uppermost check being lapped ,by the next adjoining check and this arrangement Vbeing followed from the top to lthe bottom of the page. yseen that when the uppermost check is turned from right to left of the book, all of Thus it will be the checks forming the page will be likewise carried fromV right to left. However, the lowermost check can be turned from right to left Without eecting the other checks forming the page. This arrangement pei'- mits of ready access to any one of the checks and also enables the pages to be quickly turned.

Importance is attached to the fact that a check such as herein described can be quickly checkedl or marked to indicate the department in which it is used, and contains an itemized statement as to financial relations of the payee with the employer which statement is approved by the payee when placing his signature to the check and which check is preserved as a receipt. The stub is retained temporarily by the Overseer for his own protection and contains any necessary data` while the duplicate made While filling out the original of the check may be preserved by the Overseer as a permanent record.

While in Fig. 1 each page of the book is shown made up of a single stub and check, it is to be understood that if preferred, each page can be made up of a plurality of stubs and checks arranged one above the other and separated by score lines. This construction is so obvious that it is not deemed necessary to illustrate it in detail.

What is claimed is A book including separate pages or groups of similar original checks, all of the checks of each page or group being of the same width and length and all of the pages or groups being bound together along one edge and being superposed one upon the other, each check of each of said pages or groups having a longitudinal row of spaces parallelwith and adjacent the upper edge thereof, said spaces being suitably designated and being adapted to receive the naine of the payee,"data'indicating actual time put in, rate of payment, total amount earned, and balance due` the said spaces on all of the checks of ,each group being constan'tlyv -exposed to view, there being additional spaces upon each check and below said constantly exposed row, for the reception of detailed information relative to the data in said exposed row of spaces and for the reception' of the signature of the payee, the checks of each group being arranged in lapped relation and at different distances from opposed ends ofthe group thereby to form a page and each check, in each group, when turned, being adapted' to turn all the remaining checks located beyond one edge In testimony that I claim the foregoing thereof, al1 of the cheeks having their ooras In'y own, I have hereto affixed my signaresponding ends Hush and being secured to- `ture in the presence of two witnesses. gether at one of said ends, the lapping upper HAROLD C.
