ticularly ladies shoes. Due to the great height of heels worn on ladies shoes, and

due to their conformation, they wear or run over in a very short space of time. This means that the heel must be either replaced or the shoe discarded. To replace the heel is an expensiveoperation.

The object of my invention is to produce a heel that is light in weight, durable, one that permits of resilence when used in walking, one that is quickly detachable by any person, one which need not be taken to a shoemaker to be detached. In attaching the .heel to the outsole it becomes necessary to anchor it at more than one point to prevent the rotation or movement of the heel relative It likewise becomes neces sary to mark on'the outsole the position of the hole to admit the means of joining-the heel and outsole to prevent piercing the outsole an unnecessary number of'times. This means of marking must be automatic, positive and permit of simplicity in its manufacturingmethod.

Another and the principal object of my invention is to locate a hole marking means on the heel so that the location of the hole in the insole can be immediately determined on placing the heel on the insole.

Referring to the drawings-- Figure 1 is a fragmental longitudinal elevation of a portion of a shoe with my heel attached.

Referring further to the drawings nu-- metal 3 designates a portion of the shoe upper and 4 designates the entire heel; 5 designates a nail block which is positioned as-shown in Fig. 1. Numeral 6 designates a hollow internally and externally threaded bolt having the flange 7. The bolt (L IS screwed into the nail block 5 and into the heel 4 at 8. The flange 7 is countersunk into the nail block 5 as shown in Fig. 1. By this -means it will be seen that the nail block is detachably secured to the heel by means of the bolt 6. Numeral 9 designates a leather or rubber or composition block secured to the nail block 5 and hence the heel 4 by means of the nails 10. At the point 11 of the heel 4- is a projection 12 formed integral with the heel 4, which is tapped for a screw, as at 13 Fig. 1. The projection 12 extends upward, as shown in Fig. 1, so that when the heel is placed in contact with the outsole the topof the projection 12 makes an impres-" sion in the outsole showing the proper place to pierce the outsolc. Numeral 14 designates a small tooth formed integral with the heel for the purpose of piercing the outsole. and anchoring that portion of the heel to the outsole; 15 designates a large washer positioned on the inside of the insole having holes pierced through it at the points 16. and

17; 18 and 19 designate two bolts passing through the washer 15 into the heel, as

shown in Fig. 1; 20 designates a finish for the inside of the heel of the shoe such as cloth or leather used to cover the washer 15. The advanta es of the projection 12are' twofold,first o fi ers a place into which to' screw the bolt 17, and secondly, owing to itsv height, indicates the place in the outsole for the hole which is to accommodate the bolt'16. This latter feature is particularly important in repair work, in which my heel is put on for the first time by inexperienced men with meager facilities for such work. Without the projection 12, several holes would be pierced in the outsole before the correct position was obtained involving an expenditure of time and material, and sometimes over-running the outsole so that the heel can not be properly fastened.

What I claim and mean to secure by Letters Patent is- 1. In combination with a shoe, a heel, and bolts, said heel secured to said shoe by means of said bolts, and means formed integral with said heel for locating the bolt holes of said shoe through which one ofsaid securing bolts is positioned, said means so positioned relative to the plane of contact between said heel and said shoe that the positioning of said heel on said shoe will indicate the position of said bolt securing means on said shoe by indicating thereon by an indentation the position of said bolt holding means.
