WILLIAM A. SHELTON, OF AKRON, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE WILLIAMS FOUND R Y &
I MACHINE COMPANY, OF AKRON, OHIO, A. CORPORATION OF OHIO.
AUXILIARY HEAD FOR HEATERS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 29, 1919.
Application filed Febrnary 1a, 1919. Serial No. 276,826.
To all whom it may concern:
- Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. SHnL'roN, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Akron, Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Auxiliary Heads for Heaters, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention relates to improvements in doors for vulcanizers or heaters, such as are used for vulcanizing rubber goods.
The invention aims to provide means by which the o erator is enabled to observe the condition 0 the contents of the vulcanizer after the head or' door has been applied, and
can thus adjust any irregularities before the final sealing of the heater. The inventlon includes the novel features of construction and arr'an ement and comb1- nation of parts hereina r described and particularly defined by the appended claims.
An embodiment of my invention is illuswhich, I a
Figure 1 is a plan "view of the vulcanizer head, and, Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view. Referring by reference characters to this drawing at A is indicated a suflicientportion of a vulcanizer or heater and B designates the head or, door thereof, which may i be detachably secured to the body of the heater in the usualor any desired manner. The character of articles vulcanized in these heaters re uires the heads or doors to be of substantially full diameter of the heater and such doors or heads are therefore of great size and weight and as the contents must be sealed steam tight considerable careful work to form the auxiliary head circular and ofconvex form, and secure it to the main head by providin it with peripheral lugs 3 designed to ta e under corresponding lugs 4 on an annular flange 5 carried by the main head B.
The auxiliary head may be provided with a groove or packing materlal to effect a tight j 01nt.
The auxiliary head is provided with a central opening 2 for the'passage of piping by which flllld may be admitted to the tires or other articles in the vulcanizer, this opening being in alinement with an open passage 6 in the main head B.
What I claim is:
1, The combination with the removable head of a vulcanizer having an observation o ening, of a removable auxiliary disks aped head closing said opening.
2. A removable vulcanizer head having a central opening and an annular flange therearound provided with inwardly projecting lugs, and an auxiliary head having coacting lugs.
3'. A convex vulcanizer head having an opening and a convex auxiliary disk-shaped head having its edge removably clamped against said vulcanizer head. 7
In testimony whereof, I afix my signa ture.
WILLEAM A. SHELTON.
