Description

A. EKLUND.
- BRACELET.
APPLICATION FILED FEB.24.19\9.

ALEXANDER EKLUND, OF ATTLEBORO, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR I'O BLISS BROS. C0., OF ATTLEBORO, MASSACHUSETTS.
BRACELET.
Specification ai Letters Patent.
Application led February 24, 1919. Serial No. 278,563.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in a bracelet and especially to that type of iexible bracelets formed of a pair of overlapping coiled spring strips described and claimed in my application filed April 11, 1918, and issued September 24, 1918, No. 1279852.
The principal object resides in an extensible end section by which the size of the encircling wrist band may be temporarily enlarged to facilitate its removal from and application to the wrist, the invention consisting in a section telescopically fitting the end of the tubular flexible wrist band and means for holding the section releasably in its telescoped position.
The invention further resides in the specific features of construction and the arrangements and combinations of parts hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing wherein- Figure 1 is a ragmental side elevation of the improved bracelet in its extended condition.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section thereof on line 2 -2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a similar section on line 3-3 of Fig. 2 further elucidating the construction, and A I Fig. 4 is an outside elevation of the extended end of the bracelet.
The bracelet of the type above referred to consists of a pair of channel stripsl and 2 coiled about one another, the inner strip wound with the edge or marginal flanges extending outwardly and the outer strip wound with its marginal flanges extending inwardly between the {ianges of the inner strip and interlocking therewith to define the extent to which the band can be stretched. The ends of the band thus formed are finished oif with collars 3 and through one of these projects a hook 4 that is fixed in the adJacent end of the tubular band.
Within the opposite end of the band is slidably mounted an extension member 5 provided with a longitudinal slot 6 through which a pin 7 `is passed to prevent withdrawal of the extension member entirely from the band. The outer end of member 5 1s bent lnwardly and backwardly to form a hook .8 which, together with hook 4, is engaged in a respective one of the oppositcly projecting eyes or perforated ears of the watch holding frame 9.
A catch 10 is provided tohold the extension slide in its telescoped position, said catch having its inner end turned at right angles into an aperture, provided in the slide, and riveted or otherwise securely anchored, as indicated at 11. The outer end of this catchis turned outwardly through a transverse slot 12, in the slide, to form an operating knob or button 13 by which the intermediate keeper 14 may be sprung from across the slot 6 to ermlt free and uninterrupted operation o the stop pin 7 therein.
In use, when i't is desired to enlarge the wrist band either for removal or application, the knobV 13 is pushed from its normal position transversely of the slide member to retract the keeper projection 14 from the slot 6 whereby the pin 7 will be released and permitted to travel toward the inner end of the slot 5. To facilitate this shifting operating of the knob 13, the pin 7 is equipped with a head 15 to provide a purchase for the thu-mb nail while the knob is engaged with a finger nail. To contract the bracelet, the slide member is telescoped within the band, the cam edge 16 of the keeper 14 riding on the pin 7 to shift the catch member laterally from the path of said p-in until the latter has passed the keeper when the catch will spring back to normal position and thus arrest the pin from retrograde movement.
The advantages of this improved construction are obvious especially in this type of bracelet in which the band is readily flexed to conform to the shape of the wrist, and in this connection it will be noted that the extension slide is permanently bent on a curve to conform substantially to the wrist. It is unnecessary to disconnect the hooks 4 and 8 from the Watch frame in lorder to remove the bracelet from the wrist, and the operation for enlarging the band is very expeditiously accomplished simply by shifting the knob 13.
It is also evident that should it be desirable to have greater extension, an extension hook member may be attached to each end of the flexible band.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim 'as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- 1. A bracelet including a band, a pin carried by the band, a slide having a longitudinal slot receiving the pin in said slot said slide having an opening to one side of one end of the slot and a transverse Slot beyond the other end of thelongitudinal slot, and a catch having one end turned at an angle and passed through the slide opening and anchored thereto and having its other end passed through the transverse slot and movable along the length of the latter, said slide having its outer end bent to form a hoo'k and said catch having 'a part movable across the pin,
2. A bracelet including a band, a pin carried by the band, a slide having a longitudinal slot receiving the pin in said slot, a catch superimposed on the slide and having a part movable across the slot to engage the pin, said slide having an aperture and the longitudinal slot of the slide to engage one end of the catch being turned at an angle and passed through said aperture, and means borne by the slide to restrict the movement of the opposite end of the catch.
3. A bracelet comprising a band, an attaching hook therefor, a slide extension member telescoping one end of the band and carrying the hook on its outer end, said member formed with a longitudinal slot and an outwardly disposed transverse slot, a pin carried by the band and passing through the longitudinal slot, and a spring catch having its lnner end turned into an opening in the slide member and anchored thereto, the outer end of the catch being passed through the transverse slot to provide an operating knob, and a 'keeper projection carried by the catch across the longitudinal slot to engage the pin and arrest the .slide member from movement.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
