To all 'whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, Dosirm H, MosT-.E1 .onn,
acitizen of the United States, residmget Oak Perk, Cook county, Illinois, have mvented certain new end useful Improvements in Receptacle-Covers, of which the following, taken yin connection with the drawings, is e; description.
-'invention has forits object the roductlon of e receptacle cover through w ich access muy be had to the contents of the receptacle without removing the' cover.
A further ieet of my invention provide-convenertheatres' described, 'which @vibe Invented, Qn remitentes' of variousszes and releasebly locked thereto. In many locellties vendors yof certain foods and confectons ere required by low to keepthem in covered. receptacles, end the recel teclee now in use require the use ends in uncoverin and removing articles therefrom.. It 'is e urthe'r object of my invention to rovide a., receptacle forsuehf articles, and) particularly for 'suelr articles es ice cream cones, from which the articles can be removed with'one hand while; opening and closing the'cover to the ref.v ce teele. Vl'
y invention consistsi the construction "andlfnovel arran flment o parte hereinafter desrn'ib'ed and ilustrated, and I wish toV be vumleretood as contempleting'such modiceti-oneV and variations ae come within the scope of the appended claims, and in these drawings: Y
Figure 1 is e side elevation of; a. l'ecepf' tecleffequipped' `with ny invention: Firl Y 1s 'e cresseecton of the seme, teken on 2-2 of Fig. 1: Fig. 3 is ebottom plan viewA o the cover shown in Figs. 1 arid 2: end Figs. 4-V end 5 are respectively a. sideeleva.-
tiggfc-undjplenjview of a niodiied vform of nearing evice.l Refcrrlng to'these drawings, 5 is e. recep-` tacle having;i a circumferential shoulder 6 near `t e upg, extremity thereof, :xsshown in Figs', 1 terminating in n neck 6*, the receptif f cing of ny size suitebie for the purpose gr which it is to be used. The" cover, @7, is a risk having n downwardly extending. lenge, 8, on 'the periphery thereof, the .purpose of seid Hangq being to exclude 'tiny particles ofyforeign metter. The cover,
fr, Ahesefexiopening, 9, therein, of eullcient` size to permit the pessugefof-the hond of e 4perron, end the articles desired to be kept in the receptacle. Access to the contents of the receptacle may be had through seid Opening Without removing the cover.
Positioned over 'the opening, 9, is n door, 10, hingcrlly or otherwise secured to .said cover at 11. The outer end of the door 10, is turned in a-n upward direction, :1s shown at 12, to facilitate the raising thereof.
0n the under side of the cover, 7, are rigidly mounted supporting members, 13, preferably of U shape, as shown in Fig. 2.
he locking mem ers, 14, are slidnbly mount-,- ed through o enings in the supporting members, V13. hen extended, the outer ends, v15, of the locking members, 14, are adapted tengege the lower side of the circumferential shoulder, 6, thereby lookin the cover to the receptacle. When exten ed in out* werd direction, the locking members, 14, nre held in suchposition by the frictional engagement between the ends, 14, of the lockm members, which are bent as shown in lleig'. 3,3e'nd the edges of the supporting meml'S 1 The locking members, 14, are preferably 4errenged at en oblique angle es shown in Fid, so that the outer endsrthereof will be in ter conformity with the under side of the shoulder, 6.
en the cover is to be `put in place, it is [Ille/ced upon the upper edge of the receptece, the top f the receptacle being inside of the iiwnge, 8, and the supporting members,
13, being inside of the receptacle. The door,
l.10, is then raised, so that the locking members may be adjusted. The locking members,
14'are'then extended. until further outward movement thereof is precluded by the engag-'cment'of the outer ends, 15, with the rc- 'eeptacle, under the shoulder, 6, and the frictional engagement with the edges of the supporting members, 18.
` *looking members being adopted to positively ln Figs. @L und 5 I have shown e slightly mmlilied form of construction wherein I employ o rubber faced roller i6 mounted upon the cud of the omgeving roller 14. This roller is provided with e lsongitudinul opening prel erubly between the exis und periphery of the roller us shown more particularly in F 4. The device thus constructed is adopted for use with receptacles having straight sides, the temiency of the roller to turn forcing it closer to the Well contacted therewith and at all times holding the cover in proper position.
I claim:
l. The combination with e receptacle havv ing n circumferential shoulder, of a cover comprising :i disk having u downwardly extending flange on its periphery, said Cover hoving un opening of relatively smell size therethrough, e door positioned over said opening, and hingedly mounted on said cover, s plurality of independent supporting members mounted on the under side of sind cover; and a plurality of independent locking members adapted to positively engege seid circumferential shoulder.
2. The combination with e receptacle heving a circumferential Shouldelyof n cover comprising a. disk having en o ening of relatively small size therethroug'; e door positioned over seid opening und adapted to be closed by gravity; e plurality ofU shaped supporting members rigidly mounted on the `under side of this cover; a. lurelity of 1ndepeudently operating loc ing members ted on said supporting members, seld engage said circumferential shoulder and hold the cover in locked position with relution to the receptacle.
il. `The combination with u receptacle ha.ving` u circumferential shoulder, of e cover comprising u disk having a relatively smell opening therethrough; a door positioned over seid opening and movubly mounted on seid cover; e plurality of U shepedsupporting members, rigidly mounted on the under side oF said cover; e plurality of independently operating locking members slidebly mounted in sind supporting members, said locking members being adapted to positively engage seid circumferential shoulder et their outer ends whenextended, and means for holding seid locking members .inextended Y position.
4. The combination with a receptacle hevnig a circumferential shoulder, of a. cover comprlsm e disk having o relatively small opening t erethrough; a. door positioned v over said opening und movebly mounted on said cover; a plurality of supporting members mounted on the `under side of seid cover; e plurality of independently operating locking members slidebly mounted in said supporting members at each side of seid door opening, -seid locking members being positioned at en oblique angle to a. vertical line, end being adapted to be adjusted in positive engagement with' said shoulder; and means on said locking members for holding said 4members in extended position by frictional engagement with the edges of seid supporting mem-bers.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification.
