Description
kE. BUSS.
Improvement in Fire-Kindlings.
No. 130,975. Patented Sep.3,1`872.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEE-ICE.
' EZRA ISUSS, OF SPRINGFIELD, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN FIRE-KINDLINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 130,975, dated September 3, 1872.
, To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EZRA BUSS, of Springiield, in the county of Clarke and State of Ohio, have invented an Improved Fire-Kindler; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing.
The nature of my invention consists in pellets or blocks A A of paper pulp alone, or paper pulp mixed with sawdust or other combustible material, or with the incombustible material, asbestus, so that in the two former cases the whole pellet vis consumed at one lighting; but in the latter case the incombustible, though absorbent, asbestus remains unconsumed and can be used repeatedly.
The pellets are to be supplied as an article of manufacture, and to be saturated before use with ordinary kerosene or equivalent combustible iiuid. They are to be set on lire (one or more at a time) and put under the wood or coal tobe kindled. The form of the pellets may be short cylinders, as shown in Fig. 1, or any other that may be convenient, and the size, as ordinarily used, about as represented.
In order to render the use of these kindlingpellets perfectly simple, safe, and convenient I provide cases or boxes B, Fig. 2, or other containin g-vessels, which have tightly-fitting covers or lids a that will not allow evaporation of the Huid combustible from the pellets, for holding any desired number of pellets, even to last months, if desired. The pellets are placed therein saturated with kerosene, and they will thus remain saturated for a very long time, so that all that is required in kindling a re is to take out a pellet from the case and set it on fire with a match, and the fire can be kindled therewith in a few seconds. There is no spilling of oil thereby and no danger whatever from fire or explosion 5 and the pellets are neat to handle. Their expense is but tritling.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. Fire-kindling pellets made of paper pulp, or paper pulp mixed with other combustible material, or with with asbestus or equivalent non-combustible material, as a new article of manufacture.
2. Fire-kindling pellets, composed as above, saturated with a combustible Huid, and packed or in'closed in non-evaporating cases, as a new article of manufacture.
Specication signed by me this 11th day of June, 187 2.
EZRA BUSS.
