RAZOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 15, 1919.
Application filed November 29, 1918. Serial N 0. 264,496.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD B. Gmrom), a citizen of the United States, and residing at Adrian, in the county of Lenawee and State of Michigan, have invented a new and Improved Razor, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to razors having blades which may be removed by sliding them longitudinally out of their holders, and its object is to provide simple and effective means for thus sliding the blades.
This invention consists in a razor handle and a holder pivoted thereto formed of a piece of sheet metal properly folded upon itself and a tang between the two sides thereof, a blade slidably mounted between the two sides of the holder, and an ejector for the blade between the two sides of the holder and consisting of a longitudinally extending stem and an eye at the inner end of the stem, the pivot of the holder extending through this eye and the sides of the holder being slotted to permit the pivot to move longitudinally of the holder so as to slide out the blade by pushing it with the stem.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is an elevation of this improved razor. Fig. 2 is a view of the blade in the holder, part of the holder being broken away. Fig. 3 is a transverse section on a larger scale, through the pivot of the holder. Fig. 4 is a perspective View of the ejector. Fig. 5 is an end view of the blade and holder.
Similar reference characters refer to like parts throughout the several views.
The razor shown in the drawing consists of a handle, a holder pivoted thereto, a
blade slidably mounted within the holder and an ejector mounted on the pivot of the holder. The handle is made of two sides 1 and 2 connected in the usual manner by a pivot 3. The thin steel blade 4 has a back ing 5 preferably formed by a U-shaped strip of sheet metal fitting around the back of the blade.
The holder 6 is also formed of sheet metal, the outer portion consisting of a rounded back 7 and concave sides 8, the edges of which are spaced so as to admit but pinch or grip the sides of the blade when that is slid into the holder. The inner part of the holder has parallel sides 9 which are soldered, welded or otherwise secured to the tang 10. These sides 9 have slots 11 through which the pivot 3 extends.
A stem 13 ending in any desirable pivot engaging device, such as an eye 14, is slidable between the top of the tang and the back of the holder as shown in Fig. 2, and the pivot 3 may extend through the hole in the eye of this ejector. The tang is formed with a pocket 15 in which this eye 14 is movable and any desired shoulder 16 may be formed at the meeting line of the concave sides 8 and the flat sides 9. The spacing of the sides 9 of the holder and the length of the eye 14: are such that these sides will bear lightly against the ends of this eye when the pivot 3 is riveted-over, and the sides 9 will therefore be supported by this eye.
To remove the blade, the tang 10 may be grasped and pulled away from the pivot 3, thus causing the pivot to move toward the outer end of the holder and also causing the stem 13 to move outward. Or the united holder and tang can be grasped just outside of the handle and moved toward the pivot. In either case, there is no danger of the fingers being out should the fingers slip.
When the blade has been moved so as to,
extend a quarter-inch beyond the holder it can be grasped and easily withdrawn. It will be noticed that the parts are preferably so proportioned that the rear end of the blade engages the outer end of the tang which thereby positions the blade in the holder.
The details and roportions of the various parts may be cianged by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit of my invention as set forth in the following claims.
I claim 1. In a razor, a handle and a pivot in one end thereof, a holder slidably mounted on the pivot and comprising two sides and a back, a blade slidably mounted between the outer ends of the sides of the holder, and an ejector engaging said pivot and slidable between the inner ends of the sides of said holder and adapted to contact with said blade to slide it out longitudinally when the pivot is moved outwardly in slots i in said holder.
2. In a razor, a holder and a pivot in one end thereof, a holder comprising two sides and a back, the inner ends of the sides having longitudinal slots through which the pivot extends and being also spaced apart to receive a tang, the outer ends of the sides of the holder being concave, a razor blade slidable between said sides and gripped thereby, and an ejector comprising a stem having its outer end engaged by the blade and having an eye at its inner end which eye receives said pivot, the tang being formed With a pocket to permit the movement of the ejector.
3. In a razor, a holder and a pivot in one end thereof, a holder comprising tWo sides and a back, the inner ends of the sides having longitudinal slots through Which the pivot extends and being also spaced apart to receive a tang, a razor blade slidable be tween said sides, and'an ejector comprising a stem having its outer end engaged by the blade and having an eye at its inner end which eye receives said pivot, said tang being so positioned relative to that portion of the holder Which receives the blade that the blade will engage the tang when slipped into I the holder.
