Secured to the top of the tube bending member 31, by means of bolts 32 is a bracket 33 for the reception oi an adjustable and removable pipe clamping jaw 3d, designed to I be removed from the bracket 33 when the tube 35 is to be inserted or removed. The upper turn table 30, as previously stated, is loosely and rotatively mounted upon the lower turn table 8, in such a manner that during the bending of the pipe the two tables are locked together so as to rotate in unison during the bending of the pipe. After the bend has been made the upper table is unlocked from the lower one in order to bring the upper table back into the position illustrated in Fig. 1 of the draw? ings, preparatory to inserting another pipe and bendin the same. As illustrated in the drawings, the upper turn table 30 along its peripheral surface is provided with two recessed or cut-away portions, numbered respectively, 38 and 39. The recess 38 is covered by an overlying adjustable cover-plate 40, provided with an extension 41, and the recess 39 is covered by an overlying coverplate 42. The adjustable cover-plate 40 is provided with a pair of slots 43 through which bolts 4-1 pass and by means of which said cover-plate 4:1 is adjustably secured to the top of the turn table 30. Similar bolts 45 are employed for securing the cover-plate 42 to the top of the table. Carried by and pivotally secured to the underside of each of said cover-plates, and located within the recesses 38 and 39 of the turn talble 30, in any desired or convenient manner, are the spring actuated latches 46 and 47.
The spring actuated latch 46 is designed to mosses have holding engagement with a stud 48, located on the top of the base 1 of the machine, when the turn table 30 is in the position indicated in Fig. 1 of the drawings, preparatory to making a bend, and the spring actuated latch 47 is designed to have holding engagement with a stud 49 located on the top of the base 1 of the machine, when the turn table 30 is in the position indicated in Fig. 2 of the drawings, after the desired bend has been completed.
Carried by and pivotally secured to the underside of the extension 41 of the adjustable cover-plate 40, in any desired or convenient manner, is a spring actuated break-hinge latch 50, the front or free end of which is designed to engage with a recess 51 "formed in the peripheral surface of the lower turn table, 8, (see Figs. 1 and 5) with which it has holding engagement in order to lock the upper and lower turn tables together and keep them locked until the desired bend has been completed. The turn table 30 is again brought into the position illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawings (after the bent tube has been removed), by simply releasing the spring actuated latch 47 from the stud 49 by means of a handle 52 secured to said latch in any desired or convenient manner.
The main or horizontal drive shaft 7, which carries the worm gear 6, is mounted in suitable bearings 53, and has secured to one end thereof, a drive pulley 5a, and in close proxirnit thereto a clutch 55 connected with a shi ting bar 56, which is operatively connected with the operating lever 57 of the machine. Means are provided for automatically stopping the machine when the bend has been completed. Said means consisting of a spring actuated pawl 58 conveniently secured upon the upper surface of the gear wheel 5, designed to engage with a stop 59, secured to the shifting bar 56,
thereby disengaging the clutch 55 from the pulley.
The operation of my device will'be apparentfrom the description. Assuming the parts to be in the position indicated in Fig. i
l of the drawings, rotation of the gear wheel 5 Wlll cause the cam "13, which engages with the crank 11, to move the reciprocating member 9 into theposition indicated in Fig.
1 of the drawings, during which operation the free endof the crank 11 has enga ed with the stud 15 arranged upon the un erside of the base 1, and the cam 13 has become disengaged from the crank 11, and
further forward movement of the reciproeating member 9 ceases. The parts, as illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawings, are now ready to receive the pipe preparatory to making the bend. Further rotation of the gear wheel 5 causes the cam 14 to engage nism, a reciprocating mandrel, and means for automatically reciprocating and limiting the movement of said mandrel.

In a tube bending machine, the combination of a base, a lower and an upper turn table operatively connected and mounted upon the top of said base, means for rotating the lower turn table, means for automatically and intermittently locking and rotating the upper turn table, a mandrel and adjust- Y able pipe supporting means, and means for automatically moving said mandrel and adjustable pipe supporting means out of the Way to permit the removal of the tube.
6. In a tube bending machine, the combination of intermittently driven tube bending and positioning mechanism comprising a driven turn table secured to which are pipe bending and clamping members, a reciprocating mandrel and adjustable pipe supporting means, and means for automatically moving said mandrel and adjustable pipe supporting means toward and away from said pipe bending member.
