BASKET-BALL G'OAL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 8, 1919.
Application filed February 28, 1919. Serial No. 279,770.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK ALBAoI-I, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful "Improvements in Basket-Ball Goals, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to goal baskets employed in indoor basket ball, and has for its object To provide a simple and efiicient structural formation and association of the basket rim and its supporting means whereby a light and durable as well as a substantial and economical structure is attained, all as will hereinafter more fully appear.
In the accompanying drawing 1- Figure 1, is a perspective view illustrating the general arrangement of parts in the present improvement.
Fig, 2 is a sectional elevation of the same.
Like reference numerals indicate like parts in both views.
Referring to the drawing, 1 designates the tubular horizontal bracket arm of the present improvement formed at one end with an attaching flange 2 for convenient attachment to the wall of a playroom, and in the preferred construction shown the other end of said bracket arm 2 is integrally connected to the circular ring or rim 3 of the goal basket.
In the present invention the basket rim or ring 3 is preferably formed of sheet metal an upper annular tubular portion 4, circular in cross-section, and from which depends an under annular skirt portion 5 formed at its midheight with a series of orifices 6'through which are threaded the series of cords 7 which constitutes the depending flexible body of the goal basket. The lower edge 8 of the skirt portion 5 aforesaid is preferably inturned as shown, with a view to afford greater stiffness to 9 designates angularly disposed brace members, preferably of a round tubular form in cross-section, having flattened attaching ends, adapted for attachment to the inner surface of the depending skirt por tion 6 aforesaid, and to the wall of the play room as shown.
Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. A oal basket comprising an annular rim having a tubular upper portion and a depending annular skirt formed with a series of orifices for the passage of the cords forming the depending flexible body of the basket, a horizontal arm carrying said rim, and inclined braces attached at their upper ends to said skirt portion, substantially as set forth.
2. A oal basket comprising an annular rim having a tubular upper portion and a depending annular skirt formed with a series of orifices for the passage of the cords forming the depending flexible body of the basket, the lower end of said skirt portion being inturned, a horizontal arm carrying said rim, and inclined braces attached at their upper ends to said skirt portion, substantially as set forth.
3. A goal basket comprising an annular rim having a tubular upper portion and a depending annular skirt formed with a series of orfices for the passage of the cords forming the depending flexible body of the basket, the said tubular upper portion being circular in cross-section, a horizontal arm carrying said rim, and inclined braces attached at their upper ends to said skirt portion, substantially as set forth.
4. As an article of manufacture, a goal basket rim having an annular upper tubular portion, and an under depending annular web portion providing a maximum rim opening, said rim being formed with a series of orifices, substantially as set forth.
5. As an article of manufacture, a goal basket rim having an annular upper tubular ortion circular in cross-section, and an unger depending annular web portion providing a maximum rim opening, said rim being formed with a series of orifices, substan-- tially as set forth.
6. As an article of manufacture, a goal basket rim having an annular upper tubular portion, and an under depending annular web portion providing. a maximum rim opening, said rim being formed With a series of orifices, the lower end of said web being inturned, substantially as set forth.
7. As an article of manufacture, a goal 5 basket rim having an annular upper tubular portion circular in cross-section, and an under depending annular web portion providing amaximum rim opening, said rim being formed with a series of orifices, the lower end of said web being inturned, substan- 10 tially as set forth. I v
Signed at St. Louis, Missouri, this.21st day of February, 1919.
