UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
ABRAHAM PERRON, OF STEVENS POINT, WISCONSIN.
IMPROVEMENT IN SASH-HOLDERS Specification describing a new and useful Improvement in Sash-Locks, invented by ABRA- HAM PERRON, of Stevens Point, in the county of Portage and .State of Wisconsin.
This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in mode of supporting and looking window-sashes; and consists in a catch made to oscillate by means of a lever, so as to engage with the sash and hold it in any position, and also furnished with a spiral spring carrying a friction-plug, as will be hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is vertical sectionof the locking device, showing it as when applied. Fig.2 is a front or face view of the lock, showing it detached.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondingparts.
A represents the window-sash. B is the frame or casing of the window. 0 is a box or shell of metal, which contains the catch or locking device. D is the catch, which is pivoted in the box at the point E, upon which pivot it is rocked or oscillated by means of the lever F. This lever is attached to the catch D, and projects over the front of the sash, the box 0 with the catch being inserted into the casing, as seen in Fig. 1. In the center of the catch, and attached thereto, is a spiral spring, G, provided with a frictional plug or head, H, which bears with a constant pressure against the edge of the sash. JJhis pressure keeps the catch steady and in place. I and J are the that position. When the sash is down it may be securely locked by raising the lever, as then the lower catch-J will engage with the sash and prevent it from being raised. The ends I J of the catch are made sharp or are brought to sharp angles, so that they will readily catch and hold the sash.
This sash-lock may be applied to either the lower or upper sashes of a window, and will be especially valuable on the windows of railroad cars, as it will hold the sash in any position, Whether it is raised entirely up or only a small space, as is frequently desired.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The pivoted catch D provided with angle ends I J, lever F, and spiral spring G with frictional plug H, combined, as described, with sash, casing, and shell, for the purpose set forth. 7
