Be it known that we, CHRISTOPHER S. DEIBEL and LESLIE E. LAwLon, citizens ofthe United States, and residents of Youngstown, in the county of Mahoningand State `of Ohio, have invented certain new and `useful Improvements in Flag-Holders, of 'which' the following is a specification. 1 y

and relates more particularly to certain detail improvements in the structuredisclosed in our copending application filed July 18, 1917 ,i Serial No. 181,368. l
An object `of the present invention isto,
reduce the noise of operation ofthe rotatable parts to a minimum; to simplify the construction by reducing the number of parts disclosed in our prior device abovereferred to; to eliminate all parts of time consuming and expensive production; to produce a holder of relativelylightweight and compact form; and to provide a device wherein the wind wheel may gain` momentum, and subsequently maybe automatically coupled with the turn table or flag support to rotate the same. i i
The invention embraces the above, and various other important features, of con'- struction hereinafter or particularly set forth in the following detailed `description of the present preferred embodiment, the same being illustrated in thevaccompanying drawing, wherein:`

The turn table thus formed is provided with a number' of upwardlyA extending and preferably outwardly yinclined staffs 25 threaded attheirvlower ends into the disks 18 and 19 and provided with lock. nuts 26 for retaining thestaffs in position. .Each staff 25 is provided- `intermediate itsy ends with a collar 27, supported or otherwise suitably formed upon the staff, and is provided upon lits upper end with a cap 28 of any vtangible configuration having an outstanding1 ange at'the upper endo-f vthe-staff. Each staffl 25 is provided, between the collar 27 and the head `28 with a flag connecting clip which preferably comprises an integral sheet metal blank returned upon itself and cut away at its intermediate portion'to pro` vide, atthe bend of the blank,eyes or loops 29vencircling the staff 25fto rotatably support the clip thereon. The lower eye29 engages the shoulder 27 to hold'the' clip from sliding down upon the staff 25,` and vthe head 28 engages the upper eye 29 to hold the clip from rising on the staff. The free-end portions of the blank are brought together againstthe opposite side of the flag body 30, as'shown in Fig. 6, and are secured thereagainst by rivets 31 or the like, and also by -indentations 32 which are lpressed into the fabric of the Hag body 30. The clip blank is 'provided at opposite ends with tongues 33, one tongue being disposed"upon'eachi end, and Ythe tonguesbeing turnedover the op posite lateral portion of the blank when the latterfis folded, as shown in Figs. 4* and 5. The tongue. 33y serves to hold the free edge vportions of the yblank from bending outwardly from the Hag body 30. The clip thus constructed is free to turn upon the 'staffv25 so as to follow the flag body 30 which may freely wave in any direction aboutv thev staff -25 without. winding about the staff. i
Rotatably mounted in the frame 10y is a forwardly projecting spindle 34 which engages through the bearing in the front side of the frame and'also in the bearing in the f flange `The spindle 34 is held from forward sliding` movement through its bearing by a head 35 'carriedupon the inner end of the spindle and' which is adapted to engage the flange 17. Fixed upon the forward end of the spindle 34E is a friction disk 3G provided with a forwardly projecting up portion. to which is fixed a wind wheel 37 of any suitable construction, and which is adapted to be turned by wind pressure thereagainst. "The friction disk 36 is spaced forwardly upon` the spindle 3ft a distance sullicient to admit of the longitudinal shifting` of the spindle Sal-.in each bearing and admit of the movement of the disk 36 toward and from theV friction ring 20 of the turn table. The spindle 34 is shiftable to admit of the free rotationof the wind wheel with its frietion disk-36 to gain momentum before the wind pressure against the wind wheel 37 is sufficient to slide the spindle 3ft backwardly vand engage the disk 3G with the friction ring 20 of the turn table. fhus, the wind wheel is permitted to gain suiiicient mom'entumv to overcome any friction or resistance on the part of the turn table to' turn it. As the friction disk 20 is Iliade of rubber, or other suitable resilient', material, the noiseproduced by the engagement of the turn table with the friction disk is considerably reduced over the structure disclosed in my prior application wherein intermeshing gears were employed. During the turning of the staff 25, the flag clips are held in one direction by the wind pressure against the body portion 30 of the flag, and the flags are retained from winding about the staff 25.
The clips: may be readily released from. the fiag body 30 by merely turning the tongue 33 outwardly from engagement with the opposite edge portion of the blank and spreading the edges apart, t-hestuds 21 being thus freedv from the .side of the body provided vviththe apertures for receiving the studs. The lieg body 30 may thus be easily removed from the studs and substituted with another flag body. When the flag 30 is engaged over the studs 31, the parts of the clip may bepressed together and held in suchposition by the tongues 33, the indentations 30 pressing into the fabric of the flag and retaining it firmly from pulling out between thev studsl 31.`
It is of course understood that various changes' of construction and design may be made in the above specifically described embodiment of this invention without departing therefrom, such changes being restricted only by the scope of the following claims.
We-claim:
1. In a *flag holder, the combination of a supporting` frame, av turn. table rotatably carried by the frame and adapted to support aAV row of flags, a spindle projecting forwardly from the frame, a friction disk mounted on the spindle, an annular friction ring upon. the marginal edge of the turn table and adapted to engage said friction disk and a wind wheel connected to the disk for turning theysame to rotate the said turn table.
2. In a flag holder, the combination jof a bracket adapted for detachable engagement with a support,ia`turn table `mounted for rotation on the bracket and adapted to sup-` port a circular row of flags, a longitudinally shiftable spindle "journaled in the bracket and projecting forwardly therefrom, a fric-` tion disk fixedto the spindle, and a wind 'wheel connected to the disk for turning the same, said wind wheel being adapted for rotation by wind pressureto turn the disk and being adapted to shift the spindle inwardly to engage the disk against the marginal edge of the turn table by wind` pressure to rotate the turn table by the disk.`

In a flag holder, the combination of a bracket frame adapted to be secured to a support, a turn tablecmounted for rotation on the frame, a longitudinally shiftable spindle .journaled in the bracket frame and extending forwardly therefrom, a wind wheel fixed to said spindle, means for rotating said turn table by rotation of said wind wheel, said wind wheel adapted to shiftsaid spindle rearwardly by wind pres*` sure and cause said means to operatively engage the turn table to rotate the latter by rotation of the wind wheel.

In a flag holder, the combination of a bracket frame adapted for attachment to a motor vehicle, `a turn table rotatably mounted `upon the frame, a plurality of Hag staffs `upstanding from said turn table, clips rotatably mounted upon the upper ends of y said staff and having edge portions adapted to bind the flag body therebetween, means for detachably holding said edge portions in clamped engagement against the opposite sides of the flag body, a longitudinally shiftable spindle journaled in said frame y and extending forwardly therefrom, a wind wheel fixed to said spindle, means for rotating said turn table by rotation of said wind wheel, said wind wheel adapted to shift said spindle rearwardly by wind pressure and cause said means to operatively engage the turn table to rotate the latter' by rotation of the wind wheel.
