JOHN FLETCHER SULLIVAN, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
IMPROVEMENT IN CORDERS FOR SEWING-MACHINES.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 130,763, dated August 20, 1872.
Specication describing an Improved Corder for inserting cord in the box and hem edge of center plait of a shirt-bosom, so as tobe stitched down at the same time, invented by JOHN F. SULLIVAN, of Baltimore, Maryland.
Figure 1 is a quilter, at the end of which is attached my corder. Fig. 2 is the corder. Fig. 3 is a center plait of a shirt-bosom.
A is the first part of quilter, and B second part of quilter, connected by a screw, O, which allows the raising or lowering of second part to any height or depth desired. D is athumbscrew, fastening the quilter to the arm of the sewing-machine, and allows the quilter to slide backward or forward any distance desired. E is my corder, attached to the second part of quilter B. The end of said eorder has two tubes, F and Gr-F for inserting cord in hem side or edge of center plait of bosom, and G for inserting cord in box side or edge of said bosom. H is a center plait of shirt-bosom, 1 the hem side or edge, and 2 the box side or edge.
I make no claim to the mode in which this corder is secured to quilter, nor to the adjustable bearing which permits the raising, lowering, moving backward or forward of corder, for I am aware that these are not new; but
I claim as my invention- The corder E, having the two cord-guiding tubes F Gr, constructed, arranged, and operating as and for the purposes set forth.
