To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that we, PI-IILIP WILL and FREDERICK WILL, citizens of the United States, residing at Rochester, in the county of Monroe, State Vof New York, have yinvented a certain new and useful Improvement in Combination-Stoves, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to stoves but more particularly to such as are adapted to use both solid and Huid fuel. v
One of the principal objects of this invention is to provide a stove which is exceedingly compact and which is so constructed and arranged as to obtain a very high efciency. Further objects of the invention are to provide a structure which is capable of being used with either solid or Huid fuel or both simultaneously, and a system of damper control which makes accidents practically impossible.
The many other features and advantages of the invention will be fully understood from the following description and included in the claim.
One embodiment of the invention is shown in the drawings in which Figure 1 is a front lelevation of the invention with portions of the stove casing removed, the oven dampers being in their open position, as will be fully described hereinafter. Y

Referring to the drawings,the stove casing 10 .is mounted on a base or support 11. Within this casing is the usual solid fuel fire box 12 to which is connected the outlet Hue 13, best shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. This Hue 13 passes downwardly beneath the partition 14C above which are the fluid burners 15 of any desired pattern. These top burners 15 are in the substantially inclosed chamber 16 here formed by the partition 14, the stove top 17 and the upright walls 18. Air for these burners 15 preferably enters the chamber 16 through one or more openings 19 about the burner pipes which are preferably of suiicient size for the purpose. Exit damper 20 controlled by the arm 21 connects this chamber, 16 with the usual rear Hue 22. The usual top openings 23 of the stove are preferably provided Specification ef Letters Patent. The Hue 13 is here provided with a damper outlet 25 directly connecting the same with the rear Hue 22 though this may be omitted if desired. vThe sidewall 26 of the lire box preferably extends upwardly to a p oint above the normal level of the top of the oven, and the end portion 27a of this top preferably turns upwardly andconnects with the upper portion of this side wall, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. With this construction the heated gases from the fire box are deHected downwardly by the end 29 of the partition 141 in the direction indicated by the arrow, pass laterally into the downward Hue 30, thence into the Hue 31 beneath the oven, and then through the vent 32 into the rear or chim-v ney Hue 22. A division Hue plate 33 between the oven bottom and the main bottom of the stove preferably projects forwardly within this Hue chamber 31 from the rear wall 311 sufliciently to cause the heat to pass forwardly under the oven and then turn rearwardly toward the vent 32 previously described. Thus it will be seen that in the present embodiment the heat is generated in the fire box 12 on one side of the'oven, passes over the top, down the opposite side, then beneath the same and upwardly on the rear side thereof, thus subjecting this oven to heat on live of its six sides.
vBy so constructing the stove that the heated gases are deHected downwardly by the partition 141, this vpartition becomes heated to a high temperature which radiates into the chamber 16, and this high temperature is well maintained therein for there is little'opportunity` for the escape of the heat therefrom, as this chamber is substantially inclosed. Thus the covers 24 over the chamber 16 are subjected to this heat and cooking may be readily dor-,e thereon when a solid fuel lire is maintained.

While this has been found to be an advantageous arrangement7 any other might be substituted therefor if preferred.
On accountl of the limited space which is available for stoves in modern houses and apartments, it is particularly important that the parts be consolidatedl as much as possible so that a considerable amount' 0f cookingq may bedone on a small stove. By moving. the top burner box inwardly over the oven in the manner shown inthe drawings and previously described', there are always available for immediate usesix top-openings for solid fuel cooking and four whenluid fuel is used in a size of stove in which there are but six top openings altogether. Also when the fluid` fuel top burners are being used alone, suflicient heat is generated in the top burner box to produce an excellent warming action on the top of thc stove dire'ctlyy over the solid fuel fire box,.due to radi ation from the partition 1l.
What we claim as our invention andl desire to secure by Letters Patent is In a device ofthe class described, a casing, a fire box for the consumption. of solid fuel, an oven beside said fire box, a top burner box over said oven but withA its under wall spaced' therefrom, said burner box extending substantially to said fire Ibex and having suhstantially its entire under Wall directly exposed to the heated gases from said lire box, and one or more fluid fuel burners in` said burner box.
