STERILIZING APPARATUS FOR HYPOD'ERMIC SYRINGES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 17, 1919.
Application filed September 15, 1917. SerialNo. 191,597.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY R. FRANKLIN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of the Bronx, in the county of Bronx and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Sterlizing Apparatus for Hypodermic Syringes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention has for its object to provide a sterilizing apparatus for hypodermic syringes, which includes a carrier for supporting the syringe and the needles in a case, it being possible to remove the carrier from the case body, remove the syringe and the needles from the carrier, and dispose them in the case body, place alcohol in the cover of the case, dispose the carrier in the cover which serves as a support for the case body and place water in the case body. The alcohol may then be ignited to sterilize the syringe and the needles.
Further objects of the invention will appear in the following specification in which the preferred form of the invention is disclosed.
In the accom anying drawings similar characters of re erence are used to indicate corresponding parts.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional elevation showing my invention;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the invention with the cover removed;
Fig. 3 is a sectional side elevation showing the parts in position to sterilize the syringe andthe needles; and
Fig. 4: is a sectional view on lines 44 of Fig. 3.
By referring to the drawings it will be seen that the case has a body 5 with a cover 6, it being possible to remove the cover 6 and invert it as illustrated in Fig. 3 of the drawings so that alcohol may be placed in the cover and be ignited for heating water placed in the case body 5, which is supported above the cover in a manner which will shortly be described.
In the case body 5 there is disposed a carrier having a plate 7 which fits the bottom of the body provided with upwardly extending resilient arms 8 which normally embrace a syringe 9 when the parts are packed together to be carried in the pocket. The said late is disposed a ainst the bottom of the ody so that when t e syringe 9 is embraced by the upwardly extending resilient arms 8 the syringe will be protected and held against shock or engagement with the sides of the case body. When carried about the cover 6 is disposed over the top of the body 5 as illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawings. The upwardly extending resilient arms 8 are cut at 10 to form tongues 11 which are bent outwardly and upwardly as illustrated in the drawings to serve as means for holding the syringe needles 12 against the sides of the arms 8. While we prefer to employ four arms 8, it is not necessary to cut all of these arms to form a tongue 11 at each arm and only that number of arms need be out which are to be used to carry the desired number of needles 12.
It will be seen that not only is syringe 9 supported in the case body 5 against contact with the sides of the case body, but that the needles 12 are also supported by the tongues 11 which press them against the arms 8 so that the needles can not rattle about in the case.
When it is desired to sterilize the syringe and the needles the carrier 7 is removed from the case body 5 and the syringe and needles are removed from the arms 8 and tongues 11. The syringe and the needles are then replaced in the case body 5, the cover 6 is inverted and alcohol is placed in the said cover and the base of the carrier 7 is disposed in the cover which serves as a means for supporting the case body 5 above the cover, water is then placed in the body 5, and the alcohol in the cover 6 may be ignited to sterilize the needles in a well known manner.
The base 7 of the carrier not only fits the bottom of the case body 5 but it is of such a size relatively to the cover 6 that when the cover is inverted and the base is inserted in the cover, horizontal movement of the base relatively to the cover is prevented.
Having thus described my invention I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In a sterilizing apparatus for hypodermic syringes, a case body, a cover for the body having a rim, the cover serving as a container when it is inverted, and a syringe carrier having upwardly extending arms for embracing a syringe, one of the arms being cut to form a tongue which extends outwardly and upwardly to hold a needle against the body of said arm, the syringe carrier being normally disposed in the case body and being removable therefrom so that it may be disposed in the cover to support the case body there'above.
2. In a sterilizing apparatus for hypodermic syringes, a case body, a cover for the body having a rim, the cover serving as a container when it is inverted, and a syringe carrier having upwardly extending arms for embracing a syringe, the arms at one side of the syringe carrier having each two longitudinal cuts spaced from its sides to form a tongue on each of the last mentioned-arms, the tongues extending outwardly and upwardly from the last mentioned arms to hold a needle against the body of said arms, the syringe carrier being normally disposed in the case body and being removable therefrom so that it maybe disposed in the cover to support the case body thereabove. 20

In a sterilizing apparatus for hypodermic syringes, a casebody having a rim substantially at right angles to the longitudinal plane of the case body at the rim, a cover for 7 the case body having a rim disposed substan- 25 tially at right angles to the longitudinal plane of theoover at the rim, and which fits the rim of the case body, a syringe carrier normally disposed in the body and having upwardly extending arms for supporting 30 the case bodywhen the syringecarrier is removed therefrom, the syringe carrier also having a base Which fits the casebody and the cover when the latter is inverted.
