Description

H.T.`HENDERS0N.r
Impovelment in Loom Picking-Mechanism.
No. l30,636. Patented Aug 20,1872.
UNITED STATES- HENRY THOMAS HENDERSON, OF KEOKUK, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN LOOM-PICKING MECHANISMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 130,636, dated ugust 20, 18721.
To all whom it may concern:
I, HENRY THOMAS HENDERSON, of Keokuk, Iowa, have made a new and useful Improvement in Looms, of which the following is a specifica-tion.
This invention relates to hand or power looms. The improved loom is made as set forth, referr 11g to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure is a sectional elevation of the loom. Fig. 2 shows the joining of part of frame. Fig. 3 represents the shuttle-actuatin g mechanism.
The general structure and relations of the parts are shown in thedrawing, and need not be fullyr detailed.
The batten G is pivoted to the frame A at G, andin its center portion bears the device for driving the shuttle. This consists of the pulley H pivoted to the hatten G, and having an arm, H1, connected by the cords H2 and H3 to the pickers. To the pulley part H is fastened a strap, I, attached at the other end to an arm, I1, projecting forward from the upright post I2, which is`pivoted at I3 to the crosspiece D. 4 When the hatten G is pushed backward the arm I1 passes on one side of pulley H. and turns it on its pivot, by this means moving arm H1 to the other side, andcausing the shuttle to be thrown to that side. 4An elastic cord, K, connects the end of the arm `H1 with the upright I2, so that when arm H1 is at one side and arm I1 is released by the forward motion of the batten G, the part l2 is drawn to the same side, so that the arm I1 passes the next time to that side of H. By this means a regular alternate motion is given the shuttle from side to side. The pulley H is pivoted to the hatten so as to actas an eccentric, and as the strap Iwinds from it, it will move with increasing speed, thus giving an increasing speed to the shnttledriver and the shuttle. The rod W, which connects the breast-beam B to the .upright I2 to support it, is loosely pivoted at each end to allow the part I2 to move sidewise on the pivot I3.
The loom is operated by hand on the top of batten G, or otherwise.
I elaim- 1. The combination of the hatten G, the pulley H, the arm H1, the strap I, the arm l1, the upright I2, and the cord K, all arranged and operating as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination of the eccentric pulley H, the strap I, and the arm Il, all arranged ndhoperating as and for the purpose set 'ort HENRY THOMAS HENDERSON.
