receso@ To all lwho/ii 'it may C omci'ii:
` va citizen ofthe United States, andresidcnt.-
Be it known thatl, (us'rAvn L.. -l-lniia,
'of the loorough'of ll/Ianhattain'in vthe city and State of New York, have invented a new and useful y `liiiproven'ient in Spark-Plugs,
of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is tov providel certain improvements in the construction,
of the sparking electrodes becoming clogged with oil is eliminated; second, the protectionI of theoutwardly projecting portion of between lthe conducting cable and the spark the'insulating bloc-k is '.i1isurcd,.and third, the protectionv of the 'electrical connection plug is insured.
' ,A practical embodiment of my invention -ings, in -ivhich`, Figure 1 is auv oiite'rvendv View of theplug,
- Fig.' 2 is a sideview ofthe plug.
Fig.. 3 is a longitudinal central section vthrough the plug, and Fig. 4 is an inner endview ofthe plug.
The insulator hasn-n enlarged middle portion land' reduced ends 2, 3, forming exiii terior sliouldrs 4, A5: The hollow shell 6 is' "provided with interiorshoulders 7, 8, b etween4 which and the; shoulders 4,5, aretinteiposedgaskets 9`, 10,'for spacing tlie' in` siilator from the inner Walls of the shell;

The electric conducting; cable comprises the usual core 27 and vprotective eovering'id,
which eye surrounds the conductor i3.- The 4screwthreaded portion of the' screw eye is engaged with the core 27 of the electricl conducting cable and the vcoveringn of 'the Vseid cableis inserted betweenv the hood li condi'ictingg portion 26,has a sereviifiireaded '.diictor i8, and lbears, against the ii'ietallie and the cap by cutting away the side Walls i of the hood and nap, as indicatedat 36,31. T he inner end of the shell 6 `foi-'nis one of the sparking `electrodes. In the presentjin'? .stancefthis inner end comprises` a skeletonv disk -11 clamped to the shell, provided with -spirallyarranged.arnis 12' presenting. their ends latw-iseto the opposite sidesof the in-v ner end of the conductor 13 which extends axially t-li'iougli the insulator-,and forms tl.e .oth er spai'kiuibelerfrode.' A iiiit'll--oii-` 'gages the 'screwsthreaded'outer end of the conductor 13- and serves, 4 togifetl-ier with the shoulder 15.' on the said conducto aiidtlie shown at 32. at the cutaway portion 3l, to
pre-vent any danger of the cap l'ieeoiiiii'igl broken at this point when pressurefis ago plied thereto' bythe thumb nui.; j
Froiii-the abovedcsoriptioii'it vi'ill be seen that by iii'ovidingr'spirally arranged arias for the sparking electrode of the shell, the laeeu'in'uhition o foil on the said arms is prelltfwill furthern'iorebe seen that the' pro-- l p vision of the hood materially strengthens which the shoulder bears, to secure the con#v4 the exposed end. of the spark plug; and thi f will the conneeting'end of the conducting cable l' isvery completely andi ed'ectually housed,i not only'the screw eye terminal beingy pro teeted but also the vend. of the covering ,of the cable. 4
ltvvill furthermore be seen that the' cable may lee-ledin any direction from the spar plug by looseningthe thumb nut euiileientljf to periiiittlie rotative movement of hood and its cap, the cable being clamped in any desiredl relative position by simply tighten-' ing the thumb nut to the desired extent.
Any liability of the hood becoming broken vis obviated by the copper or other1 soft metal rimat its inner end and the engagement 'of the non-conducting outer portion of the cap with its outer end. At the same time it will be seen that the'pressure appliedby .the screwing up of the 'thumb nut will be chiefiy against 'he vmetallic conducting elements, thus relieving the non-metall1c or non-conducting elements Vfrom this strain. I
It is' evident that varlous changes may be resorted to vin' the form, constructionr'and arrangement of the. several parts. Without departingfrom the spirit and scope of my invention, and hence I do not Wishto limit myself-strietly to the structure herein set I 1 1. In a spark plug, the shell, insulator and conductor, the inner endl of the shell having spirally arranged arms presenting their ends to the inner end of the conductor. l
