'sg aan t FLUSHING DEVICE FOR TOILETS.
incassa. Y
To all whom it may concern.:V
Be it known that I, ADoLoRD SrGoUrN, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at St. Agathe des Montsl)rovince of Quebec, Canadahave invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flushing Devices for-,Toilets-,and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled inthe art .to which it appertains to make anduse the same.
The present invention 'relates to flush tanks for water closets and more particularly to a device for feeding water to the bowl of a toilet, whereby it may be flushed. It is an improvement on my formel` Canadian Patent No. 186,609,granted September 17th, 1918. w .Y
An object of the invention is to provide a device of this character, being of a Siphon type, in which the siphonic action is started. Y
by the pressure on a button, suitably con- 1 nected to'an inlet valve as will appear in the following description, the water is suddenly allowed to rise within the tank, causing a siphonic action to start. Y
With the above and other objects in view which will hereinafter appear as the description continues, the invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination and formation of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, these novel features permitting to provide a tank, which can be manufactured upon a comparatively low cost and at the same time be simple in operation and effective in use.
In the accompanying drawings has been shown a simple and preferred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details herein exhibited, but the right is hereby reserved to any changes, alterations or modifications to which recourse may be had that Acome within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing the efficiency of the same.
Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of the tank embodying the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same; and
Fig. 3 is an enlarged detailed section through the controlling valve.
Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawings, wherein like and corresponding parts are designated by simi- Specification of Letters Patent. Patgntd Jun@ 10, 191% Application filed January 31, 1919. Serial No. 274,336, i
lar reference characters throughout the' soveral views.
The numeral 1 indicates a tank having a longitudinal configuration `and comprising the side walls 2, the bottom 3 and a top 4. The bottom 3 is provided with an internally threaded boss 5 adaptedto receive a threaded sleeve 5. Secured to the bottom ofsaid sleeve 5', is a valve casing 6 connected with the supply pipe 7 and having a valve seat 8 adapted to receive a valve 9, this valve 9 has a valve stem 10 extending through the sleeve 5 and connected to a link 11 pivoted as at 12. Its other end being connected to a float 13 by means of a vertical rod 14 which is provided with a push button 15 extending through the tope whereby the, valve 9,1niay be unseated through the winging movement of the link 11. To remove dirt or any foreign matter-within the valve seat 8 the body portion 6 may be readily removed so as to disengage the sleeve 5 without difficulty.
Positioned within the tank 1 is a siphon 16 having its inlet end terminating adjacent to the bottom 3 of the tank and its outlet end 17 communicating with a pipe 18 which leads to the Hush bowl of an ordinary toilet.
Formed with the top 4 of the tank is a depending flange 19 which provides a vent opening 20. This vent opening permits the water to readily arise therein thereby giving the greater body of water around the siphon 16. The ange 19 encircles the upper portion of the siphon pipe whereby the space around this flange and within the upper portion of the tank 1 forms an airtight chainber 21.
within the siphon pipe into the outlet pipe and then to be discharged to the bowl of the toilet.
As the tank is being emptied the float valve 13 will descend thereby retaining the valve 9 in an open position and also permit- Y new supply of water will rise within the p cure by Letters Patent is tank l until the float valve assumes the position as shown in Fig. l thereby closing the valve 9 and cutting 0E the supply of water. A new body of water will be retained within the tank until the valve 9 is opened by puslr ing upon'the button l5.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to se- 1.V A Hush tank of the character described, an inlet pipe leading to said tank, a valve for said inlet, a siphon pipe arranged within said tank, said tank having an outlet openingtherein and a depending flange extending `around the upper part of the tank that portion of the upper wall includedV within said flange being open toy admitatmospheric air, anda float arranged in the closed portion of said tank, and means for operatively connecting said float with said inlet valve jsiulcostantially as and for the purpose speci- (2. In a device of the character described theV combination with a rectangular tank, having a top therefor, said top having'an stem carried by saidk valve and projecting Y through said sleeve, a pivotally supported 40 lever mounted upon said sleeve and connected to said valve stein, a float valve connected to one end of -said lever, a rod connected to said float valve and projecting through said chamberfand a knobcarried by said rod whereby said float valve maybe manually forced `downwardly and said valve opened substantially the purpose specied..
