Description

H.ROSEN.
Improvement in Portable Mortar-Mixers.
No'. 130536. Patented Aug. 13, 1872.
WITNESSES. 1 ENTOR.
UNITED STATES ATENT QFFICE.
HENRY ROSEN, OF ELKHART, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN. PORTABLE MQRTAR-MIXERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 130,536, dated August 13, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY RosEN, of Elkhart, in the county of Elkhart and State of Indiana, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Portable Boxes or Receptacles for Mixing Mortar or Cement; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
The figure of the drawing is a representation of a partial longitudinal section of. my invention.
This-invention has relation to portable boxes or receptacles for mixing mortar or cement in for building purposes; and the novelty con sists in the construction and arrangement of the box or tank, the rotary mixer, and the truck supporting the same, all as hereinafter described, together with a caster-wheel to support the front end of the carriage and to aid in turning, as set forth.
In thedrawing, A represents the body of a stoutly-built truck, supported on wheels B, so
, that it may be easily transported, and pro vided with a caster, O, in front, adj usted by a lever, D, and designed to assist the truck in turning. The entire weight of the front end of the carriage usually rests upon this caster, while the front wheels serve to prevent upsetting. E designates arms, to which may be hitched a horse to draw the apparatus. F designates a capacious cylindrical or tapering are taken. This opening may be closed by a sliding-door, G. H represents a chute or spout,
to conduct the mortar or cement to a receptacle below the opening G. I designates a vertical shaft, located in the center of the tank, and having its bearin gs in the bottom thereof and in a notched cross-piece, J, resting onthe edge of the tank. To this shaft, which is rotary, are attached the arms K, provided with the vertical beaters or mixers L, for the purpose of mixing the mortar or cement to the proper consistency, and thereby saving much of the time and labor usually expended in such work. A beam, L, projects from the upper part of said shaft over the edge of the tank, and is bent down at its outer end and fur nished with a hook, for the hitching of a horse to operate the mixers. When the work is done the mixers may be removed from the tank.
