To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ABRAHAM SHIMAN, a citizen of the United etates, and resident of Crestwood, Tuckahoe P. 0., in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improveients in Jewelry, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention relates to an improved article of jewelry, an object of the invention being to provide in combination with a brooch, lavalliere, or other such ornamental device, a picture or keep-sake locket, to the end that a photograph or the like may be worn so as to be viewed when desired by the wearer, but which will not be exposed to view when worn. Further objects are to provide such a locket which will permit of the convenient changing of the picture, and which will provide an attractive frame therefor, will protect the same against dust and wear, and will not add materially to the size of the brooch or other such article of jewelry. A still further object is to provide improved means for retaining the picture in place, and for reventing accidental opening of the locket.

With these and other objects in view, an embodiment of my invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, andthis embodiment will be hereinafter more fully described with reference thereto, and the in vention will be finally pointed out in the claims.

Figure 1 is a front View of a cameo brooch, embodying my improvements;

Fig. 2 is a rear view thereof, showing a picture inserted;

Fig. 3 is a rear view showing the locket open and the picture removed;

Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional View taken along the line 4-4 of Fig. 1; and

Fig. 5 is a longitudinal sectional view taken along the line 55 of Fig. 1.

Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several figures of the drawings.

In the illustrated embodiment of my invention, I have shown my invention as applied to a cameo brooch, but it will be understood that the same may be embodied in other articles of jewelry such for instance as lavallieres, stickpins and the like.

As is well known, in the mounting of cameos, and in fact any setting, the mount therefor must be made to fit the particular setting. This mounting consists in the present device, of a rim or frame 10, having a lateral base flange 11, and slightly bent over at its upper edge 12 to retain therein the cameo 13. This mounting is secured by soldering to a secondary mounting, comprising a rim 14, having at one edge an inwardly extending lateral flange 15, upon which the mounting for the settlng is secured, and at its other edge an outwardly extending lateral flange 16, thereby forming at the rear of the brooch a pocket 17 Within the pocket 17 there is disposed a locket frame consisting'sof a rim 18 of a height substantially equal to the depth of the pocket, and having at its outer edge an inturned lateral flange l9, and at the end of the frame there is provided an arm orlug 20 secured to the flange 19, and bent outwardly therefrom over the flange 16, where it is hingedly mounted in a bracket 21 by means of a pin 22, thereby enabling the frame to be swung out of the pocket, as clearly indicated in Fig. 3. At the other end of the locket frame there is provided 011 the rim 18 an indentation 23, which in the closed position of the frame is resiliently engaged by a corresponding projection 2 1 on the rim 14:, thereby retaining the frame closed. The slight resiliency of the locket framepermits of the engagement of the projection 24 in the indentation 23, by a snap action upon pressing the frame closed. A small knob 25 is provided on the locket frame adjacent the indentation 23, to enable its disengagement from the projection 24, and the swinging open of the frame.

26 and 27 struck therefrom slightly above the flange 19, and bent inwardly. These lugs retain in place a transparent plate 28, preferably of celluloid or other such similar material, and beneath this, and also held in place by the lugs 26 bracket 31, secured to the flange 16, and at its pointed end adapted to be held in closed position by a hook or clasp 32, also secured to the flange 16.

Should the locket frame become accidentally unlocked While being worn, a projec;

' alliere, or as a combination lavalliere and brooch, a suitable chain ring may be provided.

I have illustrated a preferred and satisfactory embodiment of my invention, but it is obvious that changes may be made therein Within the spirit and scope thereof, as defined in the appended claims.

1. An article of jewelry, comprising a marginal main frame having a suitable rnament on its front face, and provided with a pocket inits rear face, a supplementary frame mounted to swing into and out of said pocket, and an ornament carried by said supplementary frame and exposed at the rear side thereof.

2. An article of jewelry, comprising a main frame, obverse ornamentation provided on the front face of said frame, the

rearface of said frame being provided with a pocket, a locket member mounted upon the main frame for movement into and out of said pocket, and carrying ornamentation exposed at the reverse side of the -main frame when the locket member is disposed in said pocket.

3. An article of jewelry, comprising a main frame, obverse ornamentation provided on the front face of said main frame, the rear face of said main frame being provided with a pocket, a locket frame hinged to said main frame movable into and out of said pocket and having its outer surface substantlally flush Wlf/h said main frame, and

I, a transparent member disposed in said locket frame, said locket frame adapted to contain a picture or other article of ornamentation, exposed at the reverse side of said main frame when the locket frame is disposed in said pocket.
