Be it known that I, JOSEPH GOMEZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jacksonville, in the county 'of Morgan and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Chair-Trucks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to trucks, and hasv for its object the provision of a truck onto which rocking or other chairs may be bodily placed whereby invalids or others occupying the chairs may be readily transported from place to place about a hospital, sanatorium or the like, with the utmost ease to the operator and with the minimum discomfort to the occupant of the chair.
An important object is the provision of a truck of this character which may be quickly and easily adjusted to accommodate chairs ofwidely varying dimensions.
A further object is the provision of a truck of this character which is provided with an extensible footrest, which is adjustable with the truck to conform to the adjustments in the width thereof, which is extensible to project to a greater or less extent beyond the front of the chair, which may be adjustedto difi'erent heights, and which is revolubly supported, these various adjustments aflording the maximum comfort and convenience to the occupant of the chair.
An additional object is the provision of a device of-this character which will be comparatively simple and inexpensive in manufacture, efficient and durable in service, and a general improvement of the art.
With the above and other objects and advantages in view, the invention-consists in the details of construction to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustratd in the accompanying drawings, in which: v

ings, the numeral 10 designates the supporting caster members of my device, as a whole. Each of these caster members includes a body 11 formed preferably as a casting in cluding a disk-like platform 12 and spaced- Revolubly' laterally extending ears 13. mounted on the underside of each platform 12,- as by a pivot bolt 14, is a yoke 15 carrying a'wheel 16 which may preferably be rubber tired. The confronting faces of the platforms and yokes are provided with circular grooves forming raceways in which are disposed balls 17 whereby friction between the parts will be reduced to the minimum. Formed upon the top of each platform 12 is a diametrically extending rib l8 and an upwardly extending lug 19, the purpose of which will be hereinafter made apparent. It will be noted that the body 11 of each caster is so formed as to provide an upwardly extending. portion 20 spaced from the lug 19. I Y
The rear casters, and also the forward ones, are connected by slidably adjustable transverse bars indicated broadly by the numeral 21. Each of these bars is formed of two similar sections 22, preferably angular in cross-section, connected by guide loops 28 which are secured upon the ends of the sectionsand which embrace the other sections.

The foot rest portion of my device is indicated broadly by the numeral 28 and comprises a pair of slidably adjustable strips 29 of angle iron having connection with each other by means of guide in s 30. A right angular bracket 31 is pivots upon the outer end of each strip 29 by a bolt or pin 32. The foot engaging member proper consists of an adjustable lazy tongs or lattice formed of a plurality of strips 33 pivotally connected with one another as shown at 3% and arranged as a lazy-tongs. The endmost strips 33 are pivotally connected with the brackets 31 by the pins or bolts 32, this construction permitting the lattice to elongate automatically when the bars 29 are slidably adjusted. The foot rest is detachable from the truck but is associated therewith by means of arms 35 which are pivotally connected with the brackets 31 as shown at 36. These arms are disposed within guide forks 37 on the bodies of the forward casters and have their free ends laterally offset as shown and provided with lugs 39 riding within the channel bars 24. The cut away portions 27 of the flanges 26 permit insertion of the offsets and lugs within the channel bars. After the arms 35 are thus associated with the bars 2% the engagement of the flanges 26 with the lugs 39 will prevent displacement thereof. In this arrangement, the foot rest may he slid along to extend a greater or less extent beyond the front of the chair and truck to suit the convenience of the occupant of the chair. The foot rest proper is revoluble with respect to the arms 35 by virtue of the pivots 36 so that it may accommodate itself to the user. It will be noted that when the foot rest 28 is projected forwardly it will automatically be elevated. The lattice is, of course, elongated or contracted to agree with the adjustment of the bars 21.
In order that the device may be adapted for use in connection with straight chairs as well as rocking chairs, I provide the attachment illustrated in Figs. 8 and 9. This attachment consists of a. bar 10 of material provided upon its lower side with transverse grooves 11 adapted to fit upon the ribs 18. Two of these bars are used, one upon each side of the device. Each bar is provided upon its upper face at its forward end with a block 42 provided with a circular recess 43 for the reception of the front legs of a chair as shown in Fig. 9. Furthermore, each bar 10 is longitudinally grooved upon its upper face for retaining the rear legs of the chair.
From the foregoing description and a study of the drawings, it will be apparent that I have thus provided a truck whereby either rocking chairs or straight chairs may be wheeled from place to place with the utmost ease and convenience, which is adjustable to fit chairs of widely varying dimensions and which is provided with an adjustable and extensible foot rest whereby the greatest degree of comfort will be afforded the occupant of the chair. 7
It will, of course, be understood that I reserve the right to make such changes in the form, construction, and arrangement of parts as will not depart from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. A chair truck comprising a plurality of caster members, extensible bars connecting the forward and rear casters in pairs, bars connecting said forward pairs of casters with the rear pairs, and a laterally extensible footrest longitudinally slidably associated with said last named bars, said foot rest being extensible in conformity to the adjustment of said first named bars.
2. A chair truck comprising a plurality of caster members each provided upon its outer edge with a retaining lug, extensible bars connecting the forward and rear casters in pairs, channel bars connecting said forward casters with said rear casters, guide lugs on the forward caster members, and an extensible laterally adjustable foot rest including arms slidably associated between said guide lugs and having their ends slid-ably engaged within said channel bars and a lazy tongs lattice pivoted between the forward ends of said arms. 7
3. A chair truck comprising forward and rear caster members, bars connecting the forward with the rear caster members, extensible bars connecting the forward and rear caster members, respectively, a pair of spaced guide lugs on each forward caster member, a pair of arms slidably connected with said first named bars and engagingsaid guide lugs, brackets pivotally connected with the forward ends of said arms upon their confronting faces, an extensible rod secured to said brackets, and a lazy tongs lattice including a plurality of crossed diagonally disposed strips pivotally connected at their ends and crossings and disposed upon said rod, the endmost strips being connected with said rod.
