FLORENCE MADELINE PEAR/1, OF LISCABD, ENGLAND.
FOUNTAIN AND STYLOGBAPEIC PEN.
specification of Letters latent.
Patented May 6, 1919.
Application fled August 9, 1817. serial No. 105,282.
7 '0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, (Mrs) Fwnnncn MADELINE Pnan'r, a subject of the Kin of England, residin at Grove House, Sea iew Road, Liscard, 1n the county of Chester, England, no occupation, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in or Relating to Fountain and ,Stylographic Pens, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to fountain and stylographic pens of the safety type, that is, of the kind wherein the pen nib or st lus, as the case may be, is connected with a eedbar or stem longitudinally arranged within the pen body or barrel, which nib or st lus is projected from or withdrawn into the arrel on the actuation of a rotary head piece arranged on the barrel top through the engagement of a lateral pin rovided on said bar or stem in a helical sot formed in a surrounding tubular element which is revolved, to effect the reciprocation of said feed-bar or stem through its connection with said rotatable head piece.
The object of my invention, is to provide a pen of the above character wherein the members are connected or articulated to prevent the shearin ofi of the rotary head piece of the en, an fracture of the parts connected t erewit'h or operated thereby.
I will further describe my invention with the aid of the accompanying sheet of explanatory drawings which illustrate one mode of embodying same.
In said drawings, Figure 1 is a longitudinal elevation, partly in section, of a safety reservoir pen provided with my improvements; and
ig. 2 is an enlarged cross section of the pen, taken as on line A-A, Fig. 1.
a re resents the main bod or barrel section 0 a pen, and b a fee -bar longitudinally arran ed therein, said feed-bar b being provided with a lateral pin or projection 0 adapted to move in a longitudinal guide recessd formed in the barrel wall when a the safety ty e, a pen bo helically-slotted tube 6 is revolved, in the well known manner.
f indicates a head-piece which is secured.
by a pin 9 to a stem h on the lower end whereof said tube e is suitably secured, and f is an inner extension of said head-piece f adapted to lie within a recess 2' provided in a barrel member 7' which latter is screwed by means of a reduced portion or neck 7' to the main barrel section a. It represents a spiral groove or recess formed in said headbarrel section extension f and Z is a metal saddle piece adapted to fit in said spiral groove k and formed with a lug or projection I which enters a vertical groove or slot at of the wall of said recess 71.
It'will be seen that when said head-piece f is turned to project or retract the pin nib n, said saddle Z 1 through its engagement in said wall slot m and said spiral groove 1: of the head extension 1' trave s vertically and constitutes a stop to limit the rotary motion of said head piece f and hence stops the longitudinal travel of said nib at when either of the solid end walls .0 or p of the head extension groove or slot 1: abuts'a'gainst the saddle.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
(y having a groove, a en nib, a ad piece a apted by rotation to adjust said pen nib, said head iece having a portion t ereof provided wit a spiral groove, and means limiting the rotary movement of said head piece, comprising a saddle piece disposed in the spiral groove of said head piece and projecting into the groove of said on body:
2. fountain or stylogi'aphic pen, comprisin in combination, a body, a feed bar in sai body and to which a pen nib is 1. In a fOKtfllIl or st lographic pen, of.
attached. a rotatable head piece, a helically slotted tubular element, a stem connecting, said head piece with said tubular element, a lateral-pin provided on said feed bar engaging in the helical slot of said tubular element and in a guide slot formed in said body, so that said head is projected or retracted throu h the rotation of said head piece and hellcally slotted tubular element, said head iece having an inner extension provided with a spiral groove, said in body having a longitudinal groove in that portion thereof adjacent the extension of said head piece, and a saddle piece disposed in 16 the spiral groove of said head plece and projecting into the groove of said pin body. In testlmony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
