ENos TUTTL 0E JEANERETTE, LOUISIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN FILTERS FOR CANE-JUICE AND OTHER LIQUIDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 130,255, dated August 6, 1872.
Specification describing a new and useful Improvement in GaneJuice and other Liquid Filters, invented by ENos TUTTLE, of J eanerette, in the parish of Iberia and State of Louisiana.
My invention consists of a reel similar to the reels of flour-bolts, with a cover of flannel, wire or hair gauze, or other suitable filtering substance, arranged in a suitable case pro vided with a vat at the head, with a grate in it, into which the juice flows to have the coarse matters-such as leaves, pieces of stalk, &c., separated, where they can be removed from time to time by hand; thence the juice flows into the reel and percolates through the cloth, wire or hair gauze to a vat below, while the other and similar foreign matters are discharged at the end of the reel. In practice the cloth will be applied to the reel so that it can be readily taken off to wash out the gummy matters that collect in it.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional elevation of my improved filter, and Fig. 2 is a plan vlew.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre sponding parts.
A is the reel, and B the flannel, wire or hair gauze, or other filtering cover. 0 is the vat at the head, and D the grate or strainer therein. E is the spout leading from the vat into the head of the reel. F is the vat below the end for receiving the juice; G, the spout for running the juice into the pump-well; H, the vat for receiving the foreign matters from the tail of the filter; and I, the spout for discharging therefrom.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Pat-- ent- The improved cane-juice filter, consisting of a cloth, wire, or hair-gauze covered reel, A B, filtering-vat O, and vats F H, arranged and operating substantially as specified.
ENOS TUTTLE.
