To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that I, HENRY P. KRAFT, a citizen of the United States of America,

residing in Ridgewood, in the county of Bergen and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stoppers'for Water-Bottles or the like, of which the following is a specification. 1is invention relates to stoppers for water bottles or similar devices, and aims to provide certain improvements therein.

The invention is particularly directed to stoppers for water bottles which have a large neck, and hence require a socket piece which is of considerably larger dimensions than the ordinary screw stopper. Such socket pieces or so-called necks are usually made of oval form and are constructed of sheet metal. Each neck carries a female part formed with screw threads into which the stopper screws. The object of the present invention is to provide an extremely cheap and simple construction of this character.

In the drawings, wherein I have illustrated one form of the present invention,-

Referring to the drawings, let A indicate the device as a whole which as shown comprises two parts, the neck proper B and the female screw-threaded portion G. The neck proper B is formed with a bottom wall a and side walls 6, which walls are formed integrally by cupping a sheet metal plate. Preferably the side walls are concave so as to provide a better and more secure hold for the rubber walls of the water bottle.

The screw-threaded member 0 is also formed of sheet metal and is provided with screw-threaded walls 0 and a lower flange d. The threaded member and neck member are united at the bottom of the screw-threaded member, the neck member being formed with a suitable aperture 6 through which the liquid is poured to fill or empty the bottle.

According to the preferred form of my invention this connection is made by a flange f formed on the neck member and turned over the flange 11 formed on the screwthreaded member. When this construction is followed the neck member is perforated at e in such manner as to form a smaller hole than that eventually required, and the flange ,1 is then forced upwardly whereby the hole is enlarged. The screw-threaded member is then fitted over the upturned flange f and a subsequent operation turns or swages the flange 7 down over the flange 03. Together they form a seat for the usual type of stopper which has a packing washer carried at the bottom of the stopper. If desired, however, a flange 9 may be provided at the top of the screw-threaded member which forms a seat for that type of stopper which carries a packing gasket at its upper part.

It will be observed that the structure thus formed is open at its top, and it may occur that in filling the bag the space between the screw-threaded member and the neck member may be filled or partially filled with liquid. To avoid the subsequent spilling of this liquid when the bag is in use, I provide means for draining such liquid into the bag itself. Such means preferably comprise a hole or holes 72. made in the screwthreaded member close to the seat. These holes permit the free drainage of any water contained in the neck member back into the bottle.

While I have shown and described one construction of the invention, it will be understood that I do not wish to be limited thereto, since various changes can be made therein without departing from the spirit of the invention. 7

What I claim is 1. In a device of the character described, the combination of an open-topped neck member provided with an aperture in its bottom, and a screw-threaded socket member connected to said neck member at its aperture, and supported solely by such con nection.

2. In a device of the character described, the combination of an open-topped neck member provided with an aperture in its bottom, and a screw-threaded socket member connected to said neck member at it's aperture, said members having interlocking flanges for connecting the parts, and said connection forming the sole support for the socket member.

3. In a device of the character described, the combination of an open-topped neck member provided with an aperture in its bottom, a screw-threaded socket member connected to said neck member at its aperture, and means for draining any liquid from the neck member into the bottle.

d. In a device of the character described,
