To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, ALFRED H. KNU'rsoN, a citizen of the United State, residing at McVille, in the State of North Dakota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bandages, of which the following is a speciication.
This invention relates to bandages for the umbilical cord of calves and colts for the prevention of navel diseases, and the principal object of the invention is to render unnecessary the daily dressing of the like or corresponding navel.
Among other features, the invention includes a sack of resilient material and containing an antiseptic powder, which is held in place by a lining of gauze or the like.
The invention also includes means for holding the sack in expanded condition while being placed in position.
The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure 1 is an enlarged sectional view of the bandage.
Fig. 2 is a view of the bandage with the device for holding it in expanded condition.
Fig. 3 is a sectlon on line 3 3 of Fig. 2.

4 is a cross-section of the expanding indicates the outer sack made of rubber or other resilient material. As shown, this sack has one end closed'and its other end is open. 2 indicates a second sack made of gauze or like material and fitting in the lirst sack. The space between the two sacks receives a suitable antiseptic material. The outer sack is provided with four rows of loops, indicated at 3. 4 indicates the device for applying the bandage and this device consists of a disk 5 provided with four holes 6 through which rods 7 are passed.
When the device is to be applied the rods are passed through the loops and then by pressing together the ends of the rods on the opposite side of the disk said sack will be expanded so that the same may be placed over the umbilical cord. When the sack is in proper position the rods are released so as to permit the sack to contract and grip the cord. Thus the sack will be retained in position and the medicated powder will insure the proper healing of the navel so that it is not necessary to dress the same. After the cord dries up the sack will drop off.
What I claim is A device of the class described, comprising a sack-like member having loops on its outer wall and means for holding the same expanded, said means comprising a plate having holes therein and rods extending through the holes and engaging the loops.
