ELECTRIC-LIGHT-SWITCH OPERATOR.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EDMUND H. SHUTE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois,

Switch Operators, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to lmprovements 1n '1 electric light switch operators, and has for its object the production of a device of th1s character through the medium of whlchan electric light switch may be operated both to turn on and oil the light by pulling downwardly upon a depending pull cord or handle.

button, thereby serving to securely lock the pawl 14 adapted to cooperate with ratchet 10, as will be readily understood.

One end of lever 12 is provided with a weight 15 whereby said lever will normally be held, by gravity, in a'position in which the opposite end thereof, or that carrying the pawl 14, will be elevated. Connected with and depending from the last mentioned end of said lever is a pull cord or other similar form of'handle or pull-element 16, whereby said lever maybe rocked downwardly. also provided with a weight 17 at its outer end, which is adapted to norpawl in operative relation with the ratchet. With the construction set forth it will be seen that the switch stem may be intermittently rotated to turn on or oil the light 'by successively pulling downwardly successive downward pulling of the member 16, the weight 15 will operate to return the lever to initial position whereby the successive downward pulling upon the member 16 serves to intermittently rotate the switch stem always in the same direction.

Switch operators employing depending pull cords are in use at the present time, but some employ-two cords, one for turning on the light and the other for turning it off. With applicants construction, but one cord is necessary for performing both operations. The construction is extremely simple and may be readily and expeditiously applied to any switch employing a flattened turn button of conventional form.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not. wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.

Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. The combination with anelectric light switch having a rotary stem and provided upon the member 16. Upon each with a flattened turn bimon; a, cap enlbram and a lever pivotally mounted on. said cap. and having a pawl adapted for cooperation with said ratchet snl'lstantia'lly as described.
