Description
1. BAUM. DOLLS DRESS.
APPLICATION FILED N0V126, |918.
Relient@ Apr. 15, 1919.
Amm/vm JULIA BAUM, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
DOLLS DRESS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 15, 1919.
Application led November 26, 1918. Serial No. 264,157.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, JULIA BAUM, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New, York, have invented a new and Improved Dolls Dress, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved dolls dress arranged to strikingly enhance the appearance of the doll. Another object is to provide a dress which forms a permanent part of the doll.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction 'as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claims.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the dolls dress;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged cross section of the same on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional plan view of the same on the line 3-3 of Fig. l;
Fig. 4 is a side elevation of a Inodied form of dress with parts open and parts shown'in section; and
Fig. 5 is an enlarged front View of a portion of the braid of which the dress is made.
The dolls dress illustrated in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 forms a permanent part of the doll and it comprises a body 10, sleeves 11 and legs 12 made of braid, the strands of which are of silk, satin or other suitable woven textile material. The braid for forming the dress portions 10, 11 and 12 is wound around the corresponding parts of the doll thus providing layers having their adjacent edges abutting and preferably' fastened together by stitches to securely hold the dress parts in position on the doll. In order to enhance the appearance of the dress, use is made of a short skirt 13 0f woven textile material, preferably of the same nature as that of which the strands of the braid are made. The skirt 13 has its upper end sewed or otherwise fastened to the under side of the lowermost layer of the body 10 so that the skirt surrounds the upper portions of the legs 12, as plainly indicated in Figs. 1 and 2.
The llower portions of the legs 12 of the dress overlie the upper ends of stockings 14 held on the feet of the doll and preferably made 0f a woven textile fabric similar to that of which the strands of the braid are made. IShoes 15 are also provided to complete the apparel of the doll. The hat 16 for the doll is likewise made of braid arranged in layers with the edges abutting and fastened together by stitches.
In the modified form shown in Fig. 4, the braid is arranged in layers on a foundation or lining 20 and in this case the braid is open along the median front 0r back line to permit of opening or closing the dress. Suitable closing devices such as hooks and eyes, snap buttons or the like are provided at the adjacent edges of the opening and closing iiaps to hold the latter in closed relation. It is understood that various forms can be given to the dress thus made and hence I do not limit myself to any particular style of dress.
In practice, the braid is preferably made of two, three or more strands preferably of different colors to strikingly enhance the appearance of the dress.
I-Iaving thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A dress for dolls, comprising a body having sleeves and legs and formed of braid of a textile material, the braid being arranged in layers around the body, arms and legs, the adjacent edges of the braid being arranged in abutting relation, and fastening means fastening the braid in position to hold the body, arms and legs of the dress together.
2. A dress for dolls, comprising a body having sleeves and legs and formed of braid o'f a textile material, the braid being arranged in layers around the body, arms and legs of the doll, the adjacent edges of the braid being arranged in abutting relation, and stitches fastening the abutting edges t0- gether.
