GARMENT-HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Apr. 15, 1919.
Application filed August 23, 1918. Serial N0. 251,139.
To all whom it may concern:
Be itvknown that I, HERBERT ELY WIL- LIAMS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Red Bank, in the county of Monmouth and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Garment- I-Ianger, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof.
This invention specially refers to garment hanger hooks and its object is to produce a simple and durable hook for separately holdinc; a hat, coat and trousers and one capable of economizing closet room.
Heretofore in hooks of this nature there has been no provision for hanging trousers so as to preserve the crease, a separate stretcher or hanger being required for this purpose.
Referring to the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of my device showing the position of the trouser clamp holding the trousers in place.
Fig. 2 is a side view of my device.
The device is preferably formed from a single piece of wire bent to the form shown in the drawings, and comprises a shank 1 having a threaded end adapted to be screwed into a side wall, a straight horizontal hook 2 With the end turned up, and a drop hook 3 with the end turned up. The wire forming the aforementioned hanger is extended to the rear of the drop hook 3 and wound spirally around the shank 1 to form a spacing element 4:. It is then dropped downward, looped, and bent inward until it abuts the back of the drop hook 3 and forms a resilient loop or holding clamp 5. The wire is then continued and wound in a flat spiral around the shank 1 to form a shoulder or stop 6.
The device is designed to be screwed into the wall until the shoulder 6 abuts the same. The bottoms of the trouser legs 7, preferably atthe seams, are then inserted between the resilient loop or holding clamp 5 and the back of the drop hook 3, and are firmly clamped in position by the action of the resilient loop or clamp 5 against the rear of the drop hook 3.
The form of trouser clamp shown in the drawings can, of course, be modified by broadening out the lOOp of the drop hook 3 and the face of the resilient loop or clamp 5 to produce a bearing surface of greater area and one which may embrace a larger portion of the trouser legs and thereby greatly assist in preserving the trouser crease and holding the trousers firmly in position.
What I claim is:
A clothes hanger formed from a single piece of wire, comprising a shank provided with a threaded end for securing the same to the wall, a horizontal hook formed by looping the wire and bending the end of the loop upward, a drop hook formed by looping the wire around the shank and dropping a loop below the shank and turning up the end of such loop, a spacing element formed by spirally Winding the wire around the shank, a trouser clamp formed by dropping a loop from such spacing element and bending the same toward the drop hook, said loop being adapted to operate in conjunction with the drop hook, a shoulder formed by winding the wire spirally around the shank, and means on the shank for securing the same to the wall.
HERBERT ELY WILLIAMS.
