PUTTEE. APPLICATION Flu-:bv MMG. 191s Patented Apr. A15, 1919.
' and DOROTHY Z. HUNT, citizens of the United HARRY T. LOOMIS AND DOROTHY Z. HUNT, 0F BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
ifUTTEE.
To all whom 'it may concern.'
Be it known that we, HARRY T. LooMIs States, and residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York,
have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Puttees, of which the followlng is a. specification, such as will `enable those skilled in the art to which itappertains to make and use the salne.
This invention relates to puttees, and the object thereofis toprovide an improved device of this class comprising a flexible strip designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a side view showing our improved puttee in use;
Fig. 2 a front view thereof;
Fig. 3 a view of the device detached;
Fig. 4. a section on the line 4.-4 of Fig. 2' and,
7Fig. 5 a view indicating the manner of folding the puttee up.
In the practice of our invention, we provide a flexible strip a of brous or other suitable material of predetermined length and width and one end of which is reinforced as shown at a2 and a flexible and elastic metal strip b is rotatably connected with the reinforced end a2 of the strip a, as shown at b2, and the strip b is provided on its outer surface with projecting, pointed, and preferably upwardly directed teeth members b4 which are also preferably stamped from the body of said strip. Y
The other end portion of the strip a is provided with a buckle c and a strap keeper al, and a strap e is connected to the buckle 0 and adapted to be passed around the leg and secured as shown in Fig. l.
When the device isnot in usethevstrip is turned longitudinally of the puttee strip a, as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 3 and as shown in full lines in Fig. 5, and the device may be rolled up as shown at 7 in Fig. 5 for packaging, shipment or slmilar pur- 'Patented Apr. 15, 1919.
Application filed May e, `191s. serial No. 232,699. f
poses, but when it is desired to place the device in use, it is `unrolled and the strip I) turned into the position shown in full lines in Figs. 2 and 3 and the device is applied to the leg, as indicated in Figs. 2 and l, in which operationthe end a2 thereof is placed at or around the top of the shoe g with the strip o extendingupwardly at the front of the leg, and the strip a is passed around the leg in a series-of spiral coils h, as clearly shown, in which operation the teeth b4 of the strip b engage the material of said coils and i i *hold'thern inv proper positionl at all times of predetermined length and adapted to be and prevent them from slipping downward, and when the strip a is fully wound as indicated in Fig. l, the top coil it is secured by the strap e.
The teeth b4 on the strip Z) may be formed in any desired manner and may be made of any desired length', all that is necessary being that said teeth project into the successive coils z. as they are wound around the lug and said teeth should not be long enough to project through said coils or the overlapping parts thereof; and while we have shown and described the strip b as connected with one end of the part a or body portion of the puttee, our invention is not necessarily limited to this construction as said trip b might be used without being connected to the part a and other lchanges in and modifications of the construction herein described may be made, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of our invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fullydescribed our invention what we claim as new and desire to secure by Let# ters Patent, is
' l. A puttee comprising a strip of flexible material provided at one end with a pivoted flexible strip having projecting teeth.
2. A puttee comprising a strip of flexible material reinforced at one end and provided with a pivoted strip having projecting teeth and adapted to be folded longitudinally thereof or transversely thereof.
3. A puttee comprising a flexible strip of predetermined length and width and provided at one end with a rotatable strip mounted centrally thereof and provided with projecting teeth, said fiexible strip being also provided at the other opposite end with a securing strap and buckle.
4. A puttee comprising a strip of flexible fibrous material and of predetermined length and width, said strip being reinforced at one end and provided with a metallic strip Which is pivoted thereto and adapted to be turned longitudinally of the fibrous strip and at right angles thereto.
5. The combination with a puttee, eonsisting of a strip of flexible fibrous material 'of predetermined Width and ylength and adapted to be Wound around .theleg in the form of a spiral, of a narrow flexible supporting strip adapted -to lbe arranged longitudinally ofthe fibrous strip and at righ-t angles thereto and longitudinally of the legand vprovided on one face thereof with a iplurality of pointed proj eoting devieesadapted toyen- .gage ythe inner face of said fibrous -strip when `the latter is Wolmd around .the leg and over said flexible Strip. y
. 6. The Combination 'with a putteefstp of `fibrous inaterialandof predeterminedlength and Widthand adapted to be wound around the leg in the 4forin of a spiral, of a thin ieXible strip adapted to be placed longitudinally oflthelibro'uestrip When-'the latter is not in use and to be arranged longitudinally df the leg when the fibrous strip is being Wound around said leg, said thin flexible Stripibe''ng provided With outvvardl-ylfand .up- V Wardly `proj eoting teeth adapted to engage the inner faceV ofthe fibrous strip to prevent the same from slipping .downwardly on fhe leg. i L
In testimony ,that fWe y claim the rforegoing .as our `invention We vhavejsigned .our -naines un presence of lthe subsembing witnesses tthis Copiesof` thisl rpatent .may be obtained ,fior Afive .-eents each, l,by Ha'dkhressizu.g 'tphe. 'i Commissioner if Patente Washington, D, CL
