TWINE-CUTTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 15, `1919.
Application filed December 18, 1918. Serial No. 267,315.
To all w hom t may concern Be it known that I, ALoIs VILLIGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Twine-Cutters; and I do hereby declare the `following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in cutting devices and particularly' to devices for cutting thread or twine.
One object of the present invention is to improve the construction of devices of this character whereby a simple, effective and cheap device will be provided.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a novel and improved device of this character which is adapted to be worn on one of the fingers of a hand in such convenient position that it will not interfere with the us'e of the fingers and hand, and yet be in position for conveniently and easily cuttin the thread or twine.
ther objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connectipn with the accompanying drawing.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a. perspective view of the device.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the blank from which the major portion of the device is formed.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing 10 represents a metal ring which is adapted to/be engaged on one of the fingers of the hand of the operator. Secured on the upper side of the ring is a curved metal plate 11, one edge portion of which extends in a direction away from the edge of the ring and is rebent,. as shown at 12 and forms a tongue 13 which extends toward the ring and in parallel spaced relation to the extending portion 14.` From the sides of the outer end of the portion 14 there extend the tabs 15, the same being bent upwardly and inwardly, as at 16, and then vertically on each side of the vertically disposed knife blade 17, which blade is dis- Gopies ot this patent may be obtained for i late the twine,
posed between the portions 14 and 13. A bolt 18 is disposed transversely through the tabs and the blade whereby said blade is firmly held in position. The free end portion of the blade is cut inwardly, as shown at 19, and this portion sharpened. The device is vadapted to be worn on one of the fingers of the hand of the operator, preferably the forefinger with the knife and associated ortions above the finger. The hand is perectly free to wrap a package and manipuand after the twine has been tied, the hand is moved into such position 'that the cutting edge of the knife can be engaged with the twine to cut the same.
Referring particularly to the drawings it will be seen that the blank consists of a body portion 11 having the openings 11 adjacent the sides thereof, and near one end. Extending from each side of the body is a tab 15, said tab being separated from the body by the transverse fold line 15, and further separated into two parts by a second transverse fold line 15". From the other end of the body, and between the inner ends of the tabs there extends an elongated tongue 13, separated from the bod)7 by the transverse fold line, 13 and further divided by the second fold line 13, this portion between the tongue and body forming the upstanding connecting portion between the corresponding parts in Fig. 1. In opposite sides of the body, between the apertured end thereof and the tabs 15, there are formed the inwardly curved recesses 20.
What is claimed is:
A twine cutter including a finger engaging ring, a plate secured on the outer face of the ring and having a member extending laterally from the edge of the ring, said extension being rebent at the intermediate portion thereof to form a tongue which is disposed in parallel relation to the said extension, inwardly and upwardly bent tabs formed on the sides of the extension, a knife disposed between the tabs and between the tongue and extension, and a clamping bolt disposed through the tabs and knife.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
