.- which the following is a specification.
.This invention relates to duplicating machines and'has for its object a particularly simple and efiicient mechanism for feeding printing or addressing plates to and from the type bed of the machine, and the invention consists in the combinations and constructions hereinafterset forth and claimed. 4 In describing thisinvention reference 1sv had to the accompanying drawing in which corresponding parts in all the vlews.

This duplicating machine comprises, gen- 0 I erally,-a main frame supportinga type bed,
a platen cooperating with the type bed, a magazine for holding the. printing or addressing plates, means for feeding the printing plates in one direction from the magazine to the type bed and in opposite direction from the type bed into a suitable receiver therefor.

9 is the magazine in which the printing plates 10 are arranged one upon the other, the magazine being mounted on a support 11 comprising opposing side members 12, F igylO, the support being adjustable along rods 13, 14 and 15 supported at their ends by brackets 16 fixed to the base 1 of the machine and projecting rearwardly therefrom, the rods 13, 14 extending through sleeves 17, 18 held between the side plates 12, and the support 11 is held in its adjusted position by a set screw 19 coacting with the sleeve 17.
The means for feeding the printing plates from the magazine to the type bed and removing the same from the type bed com' prises a guide and movable actuating parts at opposite ends of the guide.
In theillustrated embodiment of my invention said guide comprises sections 20, 21 and 22 carried respectively by the support 11, frame 4 and type bed 3, the section 22 normally forming a part of the type bed,.
as it is inserted in the type bed and supports a printing plate during'the printing operation.
The section 20 of the guide extends under the magazine9 and is spaced apart from the lower edge thereof so that a space or slot is provided through which the plates 10 are fed one by one. The section 20, through which projects means for impelling the plates 10, is formed with a lengthwise slot 23, Figs. 3, 4 and 5. The sections 20 and main frame or base 1 and being here illus-' the magazine for pushing the same from the magazine, a spring interposed between said members, a latch for limiting the movement of the feeding member with the actuating member, and a trip operated by the ac- "tuating member for engaging the latch and releasing the same from the feeding member in order that the feeding member may be driven by its-spring to shoot the printing plate to the type bed.

Usually the actuating member 26 is provided with means, as the shoulder 34, for
engaging a depending lug 35 on the bridge "25 and pushing such bridge 25 from its position shown in Fig. 4 to that shown in Fig. 5 prior'to the tripping of the latch 32 by the trip 33. Thus the outlet 24 for the discharged plates is spanned by the bridge 25 "prior" to the shooting of the printing plates 10 from the guide section 20 by the member 27 when impelled by its spring 29.
The bridge '25 is held in the normal position by a retracting spring 36.
In order to prevent compressing of the spring 29 prior to the time the lug 31 is engaged by the latch 32, means, as a latch 37,
is provided, such latch 37 being carried by one of the parts connected by the spring 29, and being preferably pivoted at 38 to the actuating member 26 and having a shoulder which engages the lug 31 and also an arm 39 in advance of the shoulder which engages a suitable knock-off device 40 depending from the end portion of the support 11. The arm 39 and knock-off device, 40 are arranged to engage just prior to the time the lug 31 engages the latch 32. The actuating member 26 is-driven by means to be described. V
The section 22 of the guide is inserted in the type bed, and is provided with means for holding the printing plate during the printing operation, and the sections 21 and 22 are provided with means for discharging the plate to the outlet '24 after the printing operation. As here shown the section 22 is provided with a lengthwise slot 41, Figs. 3, 4 and 5, and an opening or slot 42 in advance of the slot 41, and the means for holding the printing plate during the printing operation comprises a shoulder 43 for engaging the advance end of the printing plate and a shoulder 44 projecting through the opening 42 for engaging the rear edge of the advancing printing plate, and. is provided with a cam face 45 arranged to be engaged by such advancing plate in order that the shoulder 44 will be depressed permitting the plate to pass over the same until it abuts against the shoulder 43, whereupon the shoulder 44 is pressed into operative position by its spring 45 and the two shoulders 43 and 44 hold the plate steady during the printing-operation. L
The shoulder 43 is usually a springpressed plunger carried by a socket 46 projecting through the slot 41 and is provided on a feeding member whichv is preferably a slide 47, Fig. 9; and the shoulder 44 is providedon an actuating member which is preferably a slide 48, the slide 47 being mounted on the slide 48 and interposed between the lower face of the section 22 and the up er face of ;the slide 48, and a spring 49 is interposed between lugs 50, 5,1 associated respectively with theslides 47 and 48. During the printing operation the springpressed shoulder 43 holds the printing plate tightly in position.
The actuating member or slide 48 is, coupled, as "hereinafter described, to means as a reciprocating member 52 associated with the section 21, said reciprocating member being actuated by the platen carrier, as hereinafter described.
Duringthe movement of the slide 48 from its positionshown in Fig. 5 to that shown in Figs. 4, 6 and.8, the spring-pressed shoulder 44, by reason of the engagement .of its cam face 45 with the wall of the hole 42, is depressed out of the path of the printing plate to be discharged, and the shoulder or lug 51 is drawn toward the lug 50 of the slide 47, thus compressing the spring 49, the lug 50 being held from movement by a. latch 53 having a face adapted to be engaged by the lower edge of the lug 50, so that the latch 53 is tripped after the spring 49 has been tensioned. Obviously as the latch 53 is disengaged from the lug 50 the spring 49 will impel the'slide 47 t0 the right, Fig. 5, and thus shoot the printing plate with which its shoulder 43 is engaged, across the section 21 of the guide and into the outlet 24.
The latch 53 is carried by, and here shown as pivoted at 54 to, a carriage 55 supported between the downturned sides 56 of the guide 22, which sides form a channel in which the mechanism associated therewith is located. The-carriage 55 is adjustable lengthwise of the section 22 carrying the slide 47 therewith and thereby adjusting the position of the printing plate relatively to the type bed. As here shown the carriage 55 is held in its adjust-ed position by bolts and nuts 57, 58, the bolts 57 extending through holes in the guide 22 and through slots 59 in lugs provided on the carriage 55 and opposed to the under face of the guide 22. This adjustment permits the addressing plates to be positioned differently in a direction crosswise of the type bed in different form letters.
The operation of the parts of the mechanism are so timed that the bridge 25 is moved to span the outlet 24 prior to the shooting of the printing plate across the outlet 24 to the type bed and the slide 47 is actuated after such bridge has been withdrawn. 7
The slide 48 is returned to its normal position by a. spring 60 and the latch 53 is held in its operative position by a spring 61-.
The reciprocating member 52 slidably engages the lower face of the section 21 of the guide, and is projected partly across the.
outlet 24 while the member 52 is actuating the slide 48, in order to support the printing plate shot by the slide 47 in horizontal position to prevent the same from becoming fouled with the platen 62 carried by the carrier 7 when the platen carrier is moved into the position shown in Fig. 8. During the return of the actuating member 52 and parts connected thereto to their starting position the projecting portion of the member 52 slides from under the printing plate permitting the same to drop through the outlet 24. v
The section 21 and bridge 25 are provided with means for alining and leveling the bridge 25 when the same is projected across the outlet 24, said means consisting of a slot having a flaring mouth formed in one of said parts to be alined and a tongue for entering the slot formed in the opposing. end
of the other of said parts, and one of said parts having an inclined surface associated therewith for engaging the other part, as the bridge 25 approaches the guide section 21. As here shown the guide section 21 is formed with a slot- 63 having a flaring mouth for receiving the tongue 64 struck from the bridge 25, the tongue being inclined downwardly so that its upper inclined surface 65 will engage the end wall 66 of the slot 63 causing the bridge to be depressed to the same level or substantially the same level as the upper face of the guide member 21.
The section 21 of the guide is pivoted at 67 to a support 68 carried by and movable with the platen carrier frame 4, and therefore the section 21 and movable parts carried thereby are detachably coupled to the section 22 or parts associated therewith, and, as here shown, the slide 48 associated with the section 22 is formed with a slot 69, Figs.
4, 5 and 6 which receives a down-turned lug or hook 70 of the slide or actuating member 52 associated with the section 21; and the section 21 and its associated parts are movable about on the pivot 67 in orderto un-- .couple the mechanism carried by the sections 21 and 22 prior to the lifting of the frame 4 to the position shown in dotted lines, Fig. 1.
.This-tilting of the section 21 and associated parts is efiected by moving the platen carrier 7 from infront of the pivot 67 to the rear sidethereof in order that the pressure of such carrier will tilt the guide section 21 and associated parts about the pivot 67 against the action of the spring 71', Figs. 4, 5 and 8.
The slot '69 and also the slot 42 are long enough to permit the adjustment of the carriage 55 lengthwise of the guide section 22.
The outlet 24 is formed in the guide section 21 and discharges in 'a suitable inclined chute or receiver 72, Figs. 10 and 11, which communicates with a drawer or other box 73 in which the printing plates are kept when not in use. The chute 72 extends between the sides 12 of the support 11 and is fixed at 74 thereto. Each printing plate 10 is provided at its advance end with a notch 75, Figs. 11 and 12, located near one side edge thereof, for engaging a shoulder 76 in the chute 72 and causing the plate to make a little more than a quarter turn as illustrated in dotted lines, Fig. 11, so that they fulcrum as at 77, on one side flange of the chute 72, and under the momentum gained during the passagev down the chute and during the quarter turn thereof about the point 77, sufficiently to disengage the notch and shoulder 76. The plates then pass into the drawer 73 in such position that hooks 78 at the side edges of the plates, Fig. 11, will engage the upper edges of the sides of the box or drawer 73.
The ribbon 6, which, as before stated, extends crosswise of the machine, must be raised slightly to permit the printing plates 10 to slide thereunder, and the means for raising the ribbon comprises rock arms or levers 79, Figs. 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8, on opposite sides of the guide section 22 and having their front ends extending under the ribbon 6 and their rear ends connected to suitable actuating means to be hereinafter described, such arms being held in their normal position by a spring 80, Figs. 4 and 5.
The power-transmitting connections between the reciprocating platen carrier 7, and the actuating member 26 may be of any desirable form, size and construction and comprises rock arms 81 located on opposite sides of the machine and coacting at their free ends with shoulders 82 on the platen carrier 7 links 83 connecting the arms 81 to rock arms 84 pivoted at 85 to the frame or brackets 16 and a bail member 86 pivoted at 87 to the upper ends of the arms 84 and extending entirely across the machine, and working in the open ended slot 88 in the actuating member 26,
The movement of the carrier rearwardly or to the left, Fig. 1, actuates the arms 81 by reason of the engagement of the shoulders 82 therewith and such movement is against the influence of the retracting spring 89.
The movement of the actuating member or slide 52 is effected by means of an elongated crank or bail portion 90 carried by the frame 4 and having axles 91 connected to rock arms 92, Fig. 1, on opposite sides of the machine. Said arms 92 are arranged to be engaged by the shoulders 82 as the platen carrier 7 approaches the limit of its movement to the right, Fig. 1, such bail portion 90 sliding along'a curvedbearing plate 93 on the slide 52. The slide 52 is returned to its normal position by a spring 94. V
The ribbon lifting levers 7 9 are connected to a link 95 having an open ended slot 96 which receives the bail portion 97, Fig. 2,
' of the rock shaft 98 extending throughopposite sides of the frame 4 and having a rock arm 99 at one end, Fig. 1, which is connected by a link 100 to a rock arm 101 located :near the. front of the machine in position to be engaged by the platen carrier 7, as such carrier approaches the limit of its forward movement, that is approaches its starting position. The spring 80 returns the levers 7 9 to their normal .position after the printing plate has been inserted under the ribbon.
All of such power-transmitting connections include parts, as the bail portions 86, 90 and 97 which extend the full width of the machine, and such parts owing to the open ended slots 88 and 96 and open bearing 93 are detachably connected to the coacting parts of the printing plate feeding mechanism in order that any portion .of such feeding means may be readily removed. Owing to the long :bail portions, the sections 20 and 21 of the guide and parts carried thereby can be adjusted crosswise of the machine to be aimed with the section 22 in the type bed 1, by sliding the section 21 along the support 68 and the magazine 9 and its associated parts along the rods 18, 14 and 15.
My machine is also provided with a paper support 102 supported by a bracket 16.
Inoperation upon the reciprocating of the platen carrier 7 :rearwandly to the right, Fig. 1, the printing is efifected and during the forward movement thereof the arms 81 and 101 are actuated effecting the shooting of a printing plate to the type bed, and the raising of the ribbon to permit the printing plate to enter under the ribbon. During the rearward movement of the platen carrier and as said carrier approaches the limit of its movement, it engages the arm 92 which effects the operation of the mechanism for shooting the plates to the out let 24.
By the expression stationary type bed occurring in some of the. appended claims, I do not desire to limit such claims to a 95 construction in which the type bed has no movement whatsoever, as for instance, a movement in a vertical direction for efiecting a proper adjustment in respect to the impression plane, or any other mere adjusting movement, but by said expression, I desire to distinguish my construction from an arrangement in which the type bed reciprocates and thereby effects, or in such movement cooperates with means for vefiecting, the feeding of the type plates fronr the magazine, or holder, to printing position.
What I claim is 1. In a duplicating machine, a stationary type bed, a magazine for holding printing plates to be fed one by one to the type bed, a chute between the magazine and the type bed, the printing plates being slidable along the chute in one direction to the type bed, and being slidable in the opposite direction along a portion of the chute, the chute having an exit for the printing plates when the same are passing from the type bed and .also means for covering the exit during the movement of the printing plates to the type bed, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. In a duplicating machine, a stationary type bed, a magazine for holding printing plates to be fed one by one to the type bed, a chute between the magazine and the type bed, the printing plates being slidable along the chute in one direction to the type bed, and being slidable in the opposite direction along a portion of the chute, the chute hav- 13 0v ing an exit for the printing plates when the same are passing from the type bed and also means for covering the exit during the movement of the printing plates to the type bed,
and means for sliding the printing plates one by one from the magazine to the type bed, and means for moving the bridge into and out of operative position, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
4. In a duplicating machine, a type bed, a magazine for printing plates, a guide between the magazine and the type bed including a movable extension servin as a bridge,
and means for feeding the prlnting plates one by one from the magazine to the type bed, the feeding means operatin to move the bridge into operative position during the feeding of a printing plate, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
5. In a duplicating machine, a type bed, a magazine for printing plates, a guide between the magazine and the type bed, means for feeding the printing plates one by one from the magazine to the type bed in one direction and from the type bed in the opposite direction, and the guide having an outlet between the magazine and the typebed for the plates removed from the type bed, and said guide including a movable bridge for spanning the outlet, and means for moving the bridge into and out of operative position during the feeding of the plates respectively from the magazine and from the type bed, substantially as and for the purpose described.
6. In a duplicating machine, a type bed, a magazinefor printing plates, a guide between the magazine and the type bed, and means for feeding the printing plates one by one from the magazine to the type bed in one direction and from the type bed in the opposite direction, and the guide having an outlet between the magazine and the type bed, for the plates removed from the type bed, said guide including a bridge for spanning the outlet preliminary to the feeding of a printing plate from the magazine, and a part associated with the feeding means for actuating the bridge, substantiallyas and for the purpose specified.
7. In a duplicating machine, a type bed, a magazine for printing plates, av guide between the magazine and the type bed including a movable extension serving as a bridge,
the extension being normally out of operative position, and means for feeding the printing plates from the magazine 'into'a position on one side of the bridge and for moving the bridge into operative position, and said means also including means for shooting the printing plates across the bridge and replacing the bridge, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
8. In a duplicating machine, a type bed, a magazine for printing plates, a guide between the magazine and the type bed, the guide including a'movable extension serving as a bridge, and means for feeding the printing plates one by one from the magazine across the bridge to the type bed, comprising an actuating member, a feeding member, a spring interposed between said members,-'a latch for preventing movement of the feeding member with the actuating member and thereby causing the tensioning ofthe spring,
and a trip operated by the actuating member forengaging and moving the latch'out of operative position, the feeding member being movable into engagement with I the bridge for moving the same into operative position, substantially as and for the purpose described. v a

In a duplicating machine, a type bed, a magazine for printing plates, a guide between the magazine and the type bed including a movable extension serving as a bridge, and means for feeding the printing plates relatively to the type bed comprising a reciprocating member, a' slide mounted on said member, and having means for pushing the lowermost printing. plate from the magazine,
a spring interposed between said member and the slide, a latch for preventing movement of the slide with said member, and thereby causing the spring to be tensioned, and a trip carried by said member for engaging and moving the latch out of operative position and permitting the spring .to actuate the slide, and shoot the printing plates fed fromthe magazine, the slide having a part movable therewith into engagement with the bridge for pushing the bridge into operative position prior to the shooting of the printing plate, substantially as and for the purpose specified. v

In a duplicating machine, astationary type bed, and a magazine to one side thereof, means on the type bed for receiving and holding in printing positionthe type'plates, one at a time, and means for transferring the plates, one at a time and one at each operation of the machine direct from the. magazine to said receiving and holding means and for transferring the printing plate from the magazine at each operation of themachine.

and means for feeding printing plates relating the spring to actuate the feeding member relatively to the actuating member, means carried by one" of the parts connected by the spring and'detachably engaging the other of said parts, for normally preventing the spring from being tensioned, and a knock-off device for moving said means out of operative position during the travel of the actuating member, said device being arranged to operate saidmeans just prior to the time the latch engages the feeding member, substantially as and for the purpose specified.

In a duplicating machine, a type bed, a magazine for holding printing plates, means for feeding said plates from the magazine to the type bed comprising a reciprocating member, a slide movable relatively to said member and having means for engaging the rear edge of the lowermost plate in the magazine, a spring interposed between said member and the slide, a latch for preventing movement of the slide with said member and thereby causing the tensioning of the spring, a trip carried by said member for engaging and moving the latch out of operative position for permitting the spring to actuate the slide and actuating means for the reciprocating member, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
20. In a duplicating machine, a type bed,
' a magazine for holding printing plates to be fed to the type bed, means for feeding the plates from the magazine to the type bed comprising a reciprocating member, a feeding member including a slide mounted on the actuating member, a spring interposed between the actuating member and the slide, means for initially preventing relative movement of the slide and the actuating member, a knock-off device vfor moving said means out of operative position when the printing plate has been fed out of the magazine, a latch for engaging the slide after said means has been moved out of operative position and for preventing movement of the slide with the actuating member, and thereby causing the tensioning of the spring, and a trip carried by the actuating member for moving the latch out of operative position after the spring has been tensioned, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
21. In a duplicating machine, a stationary type bed, means for feeding a printing plate to the type bed comprising a guide having a portion adapted to be inserted in and form part of the type bed, means for type bed comprising a guide, including a portion inserted in the type bed and formthe advance end of the printing plate when the printing plate is in position on the type bed, and a spring-pressed shoulder for engaging the rear edge of the plate when the plate is on the type bed, the spring-pressed shoulder being normally arranged in the path of the plate and having a cam face for engaging the advancing plate in order to be depressed thereby out of the path of such plate until the plate passes over the springpressed shoulder and engages the first-mew tioned shoulder, substantially as and for the purpose specified.

In a duplicating machine, a type bed, means for feeding printing plates to the type bed comprising a guide having a portion adapted to be inserted in, and form part of, the type bed, said portion including a shoulder for engaging the advance end of the printing plate and a spring-pressed shoulder for engagingthe rear edge thereof, the spring-pressed shoulder projecting through the bottom of the guide and having a cam face arranged to be engaged by the advancing printing plate and pushed thereby below the bottom until the plate passes over said spring-pressed V shoulder, substantially as and for the purpose set forth,
24.7 In a duplicating machine, a type bed, means for feeding printing plates to the type bed, comprising a guide including a section adapted to be inserted in, and form a part of the type bed, said section being formed with a lengthwise slot, and means for returning the printing-plates from said section of the type bed comprising aslide having a shoulder projectingthrough the slot for engaging the advance end of the printing plate, a second slide arranged below the first-mentioned slide and including a depending lug, a spring interposed between said lugs, a latch for normally engaging the lug of the firstmentioned slide and having a surface adapted tobe engaged during thecompressing of, the spring by the lug of the secondmentioned slide, the springpressed shoulder projecting through the opening in the bottom of said section of the guide, and being carried by the second-mentioned slide and having a cam face presented toward the front end of the advancing printing plate, and means for reciprocating the secondmentioned slide, substantially as and for the purpose described.
25. In a duplicating machine, a frame, a type bed supported by the frame, a reciprpeating platen roll carrier movable over the 'said means including movable parts, and
power-transmitting connections operated by the rec1procat1ng platen carrier and connected to sald parts, sa1d connections being connected to the platen carrier to operate I type bed supported by the frame, a reciprocati-ng element supported by the frame, means for feeding printing plates to and from the type bed adjustable crosswise of the frame and including actuating members, and power-transmitting connections between the reciprocating element and such members, such connections including portions extending crosswise of said members for engaging the same, the actuating member slidably engaging the said portions of the power-transmitting connections and being slidable lengthwise of the same during the adjusting of the feeding means, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
27. In a duplicating machine, a frame, a type bed supported by the frame, a reciproeating platen carrier movable on the frame over the type bed, means for feeding printing plates to and from the type bed, said means being supported by the frame, and
comprising a magazine for holding the printing plates and means for feeding the printing plates in one direction from the magazine to the type bed and from the type bed in the opposite direction, said means including reciprocating parts, and powertransmitting connections between the reciprocating platen carrier and said parts, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
28. In a duplicating machine, a frame, a type bed supported by the frame, a reciprocating platen carrier movable over the type bed, and means for feeding printing plates relatively to the type bed comprising an actuating member, a feeding member, a spring interposed between said members, a latch for preventing movement of the feeding member and the actuating member as a unit and thereby causing the tensioning of the spring, and a trip operated by the actuating member for engaging and moving the latch out of operative position and permitting the spring to actuate the feeding member, and power-transmitting connecnections between the reciprocating platen carrier and the actuating member, substantially as and for the purposes described.
29. In a duplicating machine, a frame, a type bed supported by the frame, a reciprocating platen carrier movable on the frame over the type bed, a magazine for platen carrier moves in one direction and operating to actuate the movable part which feeds the printing plates from the type bed when said carrier moves in the opposite direction, substantially as pose specified. In a duplicatingv machine, a type bed, an inking ribbon running over the type bed, a movable platen carrier, means for feeding the printing plates under the ribbon to'the type bed, means for raising the ribbon preliminary to the insertion of said ,pla'tes thereunder, and power-transmitting connections between the platen carrier. and the ribbon raising means, substantially as and for the purpose set forth. 7
31. In a duplicating machine, a base, a type bed supported by the base, and means for feeding printing plates to the type bed comprising a section inserted in the type bed, a movable section, and movable mechanisms associated respectively with the sections and detachably coupled together,'sub-.

In a duplicating machine, a base, a type bed supported by the base, means for feeding printing plates to the type bed comprising a section inserted in thegtype bed, a support for the other section and such other section being pivotally connected to the support, and means near the opposing ends of the sections for coupling the sections together, such means including a slot, and a hook for entering the slot and .de-
tachably coupling the sections together, substantially as and for the purpose set forth. j
34. In a duplicating machine, a base, a
frame mounted on the base andmov-able relatively thereto, a type bed supported by and for the purthe base, a platen carrier movable on said frame, and means for feeding printing plates to the type bed comprising a section associated with the type bed and a section carried by the movable frame, the sections having means for detachably coupling the same together and'the section carried by the frame being movable for detaching such coupling means prior to the movement of the frame, substantially as and for the purpose described.
35. In a duplicating machine, a base, a frame mounted on the base and movable relatively thereto about an axis, a type bed supported by the base, a platen carrier movable on said frame, and means for feeding printing plates to the type bed comprising a section associated with the type bed and forming a portion thereof, a section carried by the movable frame, the sections having means for detachably coupling the same to gether, and the platen carrier being movable into engagement with the secondmentioned section for moving such section and thereby uncoupling the same from the section on the typebed, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
36. In a duplicating machine, a base, a frame mounted on the base, and movable relatively thereto about an axis, a type bed supported by the base, a reciprocating platen carrier movable on said frame, and
means for feeding printing plates to the type bed comprising a guide including a section associated with the type bed and forming apart thereof, and a section carried by said frame and being pivoted between its ends, movable members associated respectively with the sections and provided at their opposing ends respectively with an opening and a hook extending into the opening for detachably coupling the members together on the front side of the axis of the pivoted section, and the platen carrier being movable along the frame to the opposite side of such axis into engagement with the pivoted section for tilting the same on its pivot and disengaging such coupling, and a spring tending to hold the pivoted section in its normal position, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
37 In a duplicating machine, a type bed, a guide for printing plates comprising two sections having their opposing ends spaced apart and one section having a bridge associated therewith and movable across the space between the sections, and the opposing ends of the other section and the bridge being provided with means for alining the bridge and said section as the bridge approaches its operativeposition, substantially as and for the purpose specified. r

In a duplicating machine, a type bed, a guide for printing plates comprising two sections having their op-posing ends spaced apart and. one section having a bridge associated therewith and movable across the space between the-sections, and the opposing ends of the other section and the bridge being provided with means for alining and leveling the bridge and said section as the bridge approaches its operative position,
said means comprising a slot in one of the -j parts to be alined" and a projection on the other of said parts for entering the slot, the projection being formed with an inclined face for engaging the end-wall of the slot, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
41. In a duplicating machine, a frame, a type bed supported by the frame and means for feeding a printing plate relatively to the type bed including mechanism for holding the printing plate during the printing operation and removing the same after the printing operation, such mechanism also including movable parts, a magazine and being adjustable along the type bed, and me ans for actuating the movable parts of'said feeding means including power transmitting connections arranged to engage the movable parts of the feeding means in any adjusted position of said means relatively to thetype bed, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
42. In a duplicating machine, a frame, a stationary type bed supported by the frame, and means for feeding printing plates relatively to the type bed, such means including a section inserted in the type bed and adapted to support a printing plate on its upper face, such section having mechanism for holding the printing plate during the printing 'operation and removing the same after the printing operation, said mechanism be- :in located beneath said section and carried thereby, substantially as and for the purpose described.

type-bed supported by the frame, and means forfeeding printing plates relatively to the "type bed, suchmeans being adjustable in a direction lengthwise of the type bed and. comprising mechanism inserted in the type bed for holding the printing plate during the printing operation and for removing the "same after the printing operation, said mechanism being adjustable in a direction at a right angle to the first-mentioned adjustment, substantially as and for the purpose described. w

In a printing machine of the class set forth, having a type bed, a color ribbon above said bed and a platen cooperating ally r above said block for placing said holders successively in printing position on said block and ejecting them therefrom, a packer adapted to receive and pack said holders in series after passing from said block, and means for supporting said packer permitting it to be moved laterally to register the same in the path of the holders ejected from said block.

In a printing machine, a type form, an impression element adapted to cooperate with type in said form, a filling in type block adapted to be secured in laterally selected position in said form, a plurality of filling in type holders adapted to be place successively on said block, a feeder above said block adapted to support said holders and to feed them successively toward said block and means for movably supporting said feeder whereby it may be adjusted to register with said block.

In a printing machine, a type form, an impression element adapted to coiiperate with type in said form, a filling in type block adapted to be secured in any laterally selected position in said form, a plurality of filling in type holders adapted to be placed successively on said block, a magazine above said block for said holders from which they are movable toward said type block, and means for movably supporting said magazine whereby it may be adjusted to register with said block.

Two cooperating. printing elements, one a type form and ble with said type bed and ribbon to print from type in aid bed, an auxiliary type bed below said ribbon adapted to hold a separate type form and automatic means for removing said ribbon to change said type form during the operation of said printing machine.

In a printing machine, a main type form, a upplemental type form adapted to be arranged in said main type form, a color ribbon above said forms, a platen adapted to coiiperate with type in said forms and said ribbon to print, and means associated with the type forms adapted to lift said ribbon above the plane of the printing surface of type in said forms to permit changing said supplemental form and depressible below said platen when the latter cooperates with the type in said form to produce a printing impression.

In a printing machine, the combination of a platen and a bed for a form, the one mounted to travel reciprocatively to the other, an inking ribbon over said bed, means for placing successive address forms on the bed, and means controlled by the mentioned traveling element for lifting the ribbon to permit entrance of a form.

In a machine of the character described, the combination with a type-support, a main type form on said support and an impression member cooperating with said type-form, of an auxiliary type-support, a series of auxiliary type forms adapted to be successively placed on said auxiliary typesupport for cooperation with said impression member, an inking ribbon passing over the auxiliary type-form in use and also over said main type-form, means actuated by said impression member for causing the auxiliary type form in use to be delivered from the machine after the printing operation and means to expose the auxiliary typesupport by removing said inking ribbon therefrom to allow another auxiliary typeform to be placed thereon.

In a printing machine, two cooperatin impression elements, one a type form and the other a platen, a filling in type block placed in said form, a plurality of filling in type holders adapted to be placed successively on said block, a feeder above said block supporting said holders and adapted to feed said holders intermittently down onto said block and means for movably supporting said feeder whereby it may be adjusted laterally to register with said block.
