SEWER.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 8, 1919.
Application led October 16, 1916. Serial No. 125,800.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERBERT R. WEBBER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Red Wing, in the county of Goodhue and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sewers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relate-s to sewers and has for its object to provide a segmental block from which the sewer may be built up in the ield. A further object is to provide each block with longitudinal dovetailed grooves, which grooves when the blocks are placed in position form recesses adapted to be lled with concrete or other similar substances to hold the blocks rmly secured together.
The full objects and advantages of my invention will appear in connection with the detailed description thereof and are particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, illustrating the application of my invention vin one form;-
Figure 1 is an elevational sectional view of a sewer built up from my improved 'blocks Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a portion of the sewer drawn to a larger scale. Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view taken through one of the blocks.
My lmproved segmental sewer block is best shown in Figs. 2 and 3. It comprises a pair of concentric segmental walls 10 and 11 connected together by a central radial partition 12 and similar but thinner side walls 13 and 14 which are positioned a short distance from the edges of the block. The extreme ends of walls 10 and 11 are formed with inwardly-extending acute ridges 15, which together with the side walls 13 and 14C form dovetailed recesses 16 and 17 at the sides of the blocks. The blocks may be Y made of tile or of concrete, as desired, and
are formed open at the ends.
In constructing the sewer -the blocks are placed in position upon a suitable form and v cement is inserted in the recesses formed by the grooves 16 and 17, as indicated at 20 in Figs. 1 and 2. The walls 13 and 14 are preferably formed co'nveX to withstand any tudinally, as clearly indicated in Figs. 1
and 2. In this manner the 'blocks are firmly held together and form a substantial and rigid structure.
, The advantages of my invention are manifest. The sewer is able to withstand tensile as well as compressive stresses, sothat the same will hold up in case the earth pressure varies on different sides of the sewer. By the use of the double round of blocks the sewer is rendered tight even after the lining has become mutiliated and the blocks have become bare.
I claim;
1. A curved hollow block comprising two oppositely disposed concentric segmental walls, an outwardly curved wall connecting said segmental walls at each side of the block and positioned a short distance from the edges of said segmental walls and inwardly extending acute ridges on theprojecting portions of said segmental walls adjacent each of said outwardly curved walls to form dovetailed recesses in conjunction with said curved walls.
2. A curved hollow block comprising two oppositely disposed concentric segmental walls, a central radial partition wall connecting said segmental walls, a thin outwardly curved wall connecting said segmental walls at each side of the block and positioned a short distance from the edges of said segmental walls, and inwardly extending acute ridges on the projecting portions of said segmental walls adjacent each of said outwardly curved walls to form dovetailed recesses in conjunction with said curved walls.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HERBERT R. WEBBER.
