Description

A. SABO COMBINATION LADDER.
PLHCAHGH man mm 2, ma.
I 0 w w m 4 L 6 mm i A Y UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE- ALEX SABO, OF JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY.
COMBINATION -LADIDER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALEX SABO, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at Jersey City, county of Hudson, and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination-Ladders, of which the following is a specificatlon.
This invention relates to improvements in combination ladders, particularly to that class of ladders which are combined by hooking the lower ladder to the rungs of the one above. 1
It is the object of the invention to provide a combination ladder which-is formed of a plurality of ladders of similar construction which when combined will permit of a safe ascentof a person, and after use will allow a safe and quick assembling of the single ladders for transportation, storing etc.
A still further object ofthe invention is the provision of means for preventing an abnormalswinging of the combined ladders in order to prevent accidents resulting from the eventual accidental separation of the ladders forming the combination.
It is also a feature of the resent invention to provide a means for positively preventing a separation of the combined ladders of a group of such ladders.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a pair of laddersforming a combination ladder according to the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a side view thereof.
Fig. 3 is a section along line 3-3 of Fig. 1, and
Fig. 4 is a section similar to Fig. 3, but through a modified form of securing means.
As shown in Fig. 1, the combination ladder is formed by two ladders 11 and 12, similar in structure, each being provided with the uprights 13 and 14, having at their upper extremities hooks 15 and lfi-adapted to engage the lowermost rung 17 of the ladder with which it is intended to be com bined to form a single climbing device.
The upper rung 18 of each of theladders Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 8, 1919.
Application filed June 8, 1918. Serial No. 238,844.
11 and 12 is extended or projected laterally through each of the uprights 13 and 14 respectively and is intended for engagement with the upper edge of the upright of the ladder next above in order to limit the swinging of the ladders and prevent eventual accidental separation of the same result ing in injury to ersons and damage to material.
In order to more positively insure the engagement between said extended bar or rung 18 and the uprights of the ladder next above, the device shown partly in section in Fig. 4 is used, according to which the uprights of the lower ladder are designated by the numerals of reference 19 and 20, while the uprights of the upper ladder or section are designated 21 and 22 respectively.
As shown in said figure, the extended rung 18 of the lower ladder is provided at its ends with hooks or recesses 23 and 24, adapted to engage the uprights 21 and 22, and to securely hold the parts in their relative ositions. 7
While I have herein shown and described specific forms of my invention, I do not wish to be limited thereto except for such limitations as the claims may import.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is new, and desire to secure by Let ters Patent is A combination ladder of the character described comprising, in combination, a plu rality of ladders, each having hooks at the upper extremities of its uprights for engaging the rungs of the ladder next above, an upper rung laterally extending through the uprights and engaging the upper edge of the upright of the ladder next above, and having rece sses or hooks engaging the uprights of the ladder'next above for securely holding the parts in their relative position against accidental separation.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature.
ALEX SABO.
