A gland 24 which has screw threaded connection with interior threads -upon the enlarged portion 20 is adapted to compress and hold the packing material 21 securely and tightly in place against a portion of the exterior surface of the part 15 of the discharge tube or passageway. It will be observed that the discharge tube is provided with openings at 25 for the discharge of the material 26 therefrom. The closing cap member 4 is'provided with a central opening as indicated at 45 through which the rear end portion of the member 30 extends,V the said member being provided with a shoulder against which the forward side of said member 4 surrounding the opening 45p-is seated. The cap member 4 is rotatably secured in position upon the member 30 by a nut 46 which has screw threaded engagement with a reduced portion 47 of the member' 30.
The member 40- is provided at intervals with depressed inclined portions 50 which constitute cams for coperating with correspondingly shaped and formed cam projections 51 upon vthe forward side of the handle closing cap 4. It will be observed that in the present construction I have shown two cam surfaces 50 and also two vcoperating cam projections 51.` It will be understood, however, that a greater number of such cam acting parts may be provided if desired, depending upon the amount of material it is desired to discharge at intervals from-the interior of the handle.
It will be noted that 'I have provided a coil spring 56 which is situated in the annular space between thespacing member 35 and the skirt 33. The forward end of this spring is seated against the annular flange 34 while the rear end thereof is seated against vthe shoulder 36 formed at the rear upperv end portion vof the annular spacing member It will be observed that 'when once screwed in lpositionthe portions 10, 40 and 41 are fixed with respect to each other, that is to say, immovable longitudinally.
The screw threaded flange 40a ofthe member 40,Y as well as the screw threaded flange 5 of the cap 4 when the parts are in operative position with the cam projections 51 seated against the cam surfaces 50, is covered and protected by means of an annular covering and protecting member54. The said member 54 is provided with a short inturned flange 55 which is seated against the outer periphery of the member 41 at ay point just forward of the forward edge of the flange 40a'. Said member 54- also .provided with an annular inwardly extending proj ection- 56 which isvsituated just in rear of the .outer peripheral edge of the member 40. In this 62 which contact with and press against the said disk at its inner annular rear edge with an inwardly extending annular flange portion 64 which extends over the rear edge of the hub 63 and cont-acts vfirmly with .and against the screw' threaded portion 16 so as to prevent the escape -of any of the material 26 from the handle l between the screw threaded portion 16 and the hub 61.
Assuming that the handle is provided with a supply of liquid, semi-liquid or plastic material, such as soap, 26, as indicated in Fig. 1 of the drawing, the device will be operated to cause a discharge of the quantity of material .desired by holding in one hand the portion 41 which,togethr with the parts connected therewith, may be termedthe body portion of the brush-holding section, and taking hold of the handle 1 with the other hand and turning the saine together with the cap 4 secured to the inner forward end thereof to the right in the direction in which the hands of a watch turn. Such turning movement causes the cam projections 51 to slide upwardly upon the cam surfaces 50 so as to cause a longitudinal movement of `the handle 1, the cap 4 and the discharge tube consisting of the parts 15 and 16. Such movement lcauses disengagement of the inner forward end 14 of the part 15 from the edges of the opening 13 so that the latter is opened.;
By reason of the friction between the spring fin ers 62 and the disk y62 with the interior o the handle 1, it will be understood that, the piston which comprises the members and 62 rotates with the said handle and that in consequence thereof it moves longitudinally lin said, handle toward the rear thereof simultaneously with the rotatory' and longitudinal movement of the handle. Such rearward longitudinal movements of the handle 1 and the discharge tube and the part 30 secured thereto is in opposition tothe pressure exerted by the spring 56.
Consequently as soon as the handle 1` has been turned sufficiently to carry the cam projections 51 through a halfvrevolution they will again move into engagement with the cams 50 under the influence of the spring 56 which -at such time causes longitudinal forward movement of the part l, the discharge tube and the part 30 secured to the latter, so that the opening 13 is closed by the forward pointed end 14 of the said tube.
When the plastic material has been driven from the handle 1 by the rear longitudinal movement of the piston the elastic'disk62"1 will be found to occupy the space formed by the enlargement 2 of the handle 1. In plac ing or inserting the disk 62' in the forward open end of the part 1 b'efore lthe same is closed bythe closing cap 4, it is compressed, consequently when it is moved into the enlarged portion 2 of thehandle 1 it expands and cannot readily be removed therefrom.
The idea of providing a construction of handle having means to prevent the ready removal of the disk 62a after the material has been emptied is to prevent the handle from being used a second time.' It is the purpose that the material, such as soap, to be dispensed shall vbe placed in a handle such as the handle l'and the inner forward; end
thereof closed by means of a new elastic disk 62a which handle may then be used and substituted fora handle 1 from which all of the soap material has been discharged,"such used handle being thrown away. i
I claim: l
1. In a device for dispensing liquid, semiliquid and plastic material, the combination of a receptacle for holding said material, a discharge tube leading from the interior of said receptacle and projecting a distance beyond the forward end thereof, the said material .being discharged through'said tube, a tube into which the forward, projecting part of said discharge tube extends and into which the said material escapes from the latter, and means'interposed between the said tubes for preventing any of said material from escaping rearwardly through said second named tube.
2. In a device for dispensing liquid, semiliquid and plastic material, the combination of a receptacle for holding said material, a discharge tube leading from the interior of said receptacle and projecting beyond the forward end thereof, a tube into which the v forward end ofsaid discharge tube projects.y means for expelling the material from said receptacle through said discharge tube and the forward end of said second named tube,
and means interposed between a portion of said discharge tube and said second named tube-for preventing thepassage of any of said material rearwardly throughl the latter.
3. In a device for dispensing liquid, semiliquid and plastic material, the combination chamber which encircles a portion of the .projecting part oflsaid'discharge tube, and
Yof said receptacle and projecting beyond the forward. end thereof through which the' material escapes from said receptacle, a-wall secured to said discharge tube and spaced therefrom to form a chamber around a portion of the projecting part of said discharge tube, a tube into vwhich said projecting partextends, the rear end of said tube extending into said chamber, and means interposed between the said tubes for preventing the escape of material into said chamber.

In a device for dispensing liquid, semiliquid and plastic material, the combination ofa receptacle for holding said material, a discharge tube extending from the interior of said receptacle and projecting beyond the forward end thereof through which the inaterial escapes from said receptacle, the forward end of said tube terminating in a valve portion, a wall secured to said discharge tube and s aced therefrom to form a chamberV aroun a portion of the projectin part thereof, a tube into which said disc arge tube extends, the forward end of'said tube having anopening through which the material discharged from said discharge tube escapes, and the rear end of said tube extending into said chamber, means interposed between said tubes for preventing the escape of material rearwardly through the second named tube linto said chamber, and means for causing reciprocating movement of said discharge tube, substantially as described.

In a device for dispensing liquid, semiliquid and plastic material, the combination of a'receptacle for holding the said material, a discharge tube extending from the interior of-said receptacle and projecting beyond the forward end thereof for discharging the said material from said receptacle, said tube bein provided at its forward end with a pointed valve portion and h aving discharge openings adjacent to its forward end, and the said tube Yalso having secured thereto an annular wall providing an annular chamber surrounding a portion of said projecting part, said annular wall being provided with a hollow body portion provided with a couple of parallel spaced. plates extending transversely.
thereof, an annular spacing member situated -within the said hollow member and between the said transversely extending plates, the rear portion 0fl said spacing member being providedfwith a shoulder, a tube xedly secured to lthe forward end of the said transverse plates, said tube being provided with a discharge opening at its forward end and y with an enlargement at its rear end which projects into the said annular chamber, packing-material interposed between the enlarged portion of said second named tube and the projecting part of the said discharge tube,
means for securing the said receptacle and the said head, a spring interposed between the flange upon the said annular wall and the shoulder upon the said spacin "member for holding the said discharge tu in forward position to close the discharge opening in the said second named tube, and means yfor causing rearward movement of the said discharge tube, substantially as described. 8. In a device for dispensing liquid, semiliquid and plastic material, the combination of a receptacle for holding said material, said'receptacle having an enlargement at its rear end to form an enlarged space therein,
a discharge tube leading from said receptacle and rojecting beyond the forward end thereof, t e portion of said discharge tube within theI said rece tacle bei'gscrew threaded, a piston within the said receptacle which iston has screw threaded engagement with t e said discharge tube, and the said piston comprising elastic .and non-elastic portions, the said elastic ortion being compressed when inserted wtihin the said rece tacle, means for rotatably said receptacle with the said discharge tube, the rotation of the said receptacle with re spect to lthe said discharge tube causing rotation of the said piston with respect thereto lby reason of the friction between the said piston land the interior surface `of the said receptacle, whereby the said piston is caused to move toward the rear of the said receptacle upon the rotation thereof, the said elastic portion, when the said piston reaches the rear end of the said receptacle, entering the said enlarged portion and expanding to fill the same, substantially as described.
9. In a device for dispensing liquid, semiliquid and plastic material, the combination of a receptacle for holding said material, a discharge tube extending from said receptacle for discharging the said material thereconnecting e from, the said discharge tube within the said receptacle. being screw threaded, a, piston situated within the said receptacle and having screw threaded engagement with the said screw threaded tube and frictional engagement with the interior surface of said receptacle, means for connecting the said receptacle and said discharge tube whereby they are relatively rotatable, such relative rotation causing relative rotation of the piston and discharge tube to effect axial movement l of said piston upon said discharge tube and the said piston comprising an elastic annular portion having anA inwardly extending annular flange at one edge for engaging the said screw threaded discharge tube, substantially as and for the purpose-described.
