IMPROVEMENT |N WAGON-SEATS.
Specificationforming part of Letters Patent No. 129,912, dated July 30, 1872.
. Specification describing a certain Improvement in Portable Spring Wagon-Seats, invented by SIDNEY S. WEBB and DOCTOR F. CRAWFORD, of Oaks, in theconnty of Orange and State of North Carolina.
This invention relates to a new and improved formof portable spring-seats for use in common box-bed wagons; and it consists in the novel combination of a seat, spring, framing and guiding or bearing cleats, as more fully hereinafter explained.
In thefaccompanyin g drawing, Figure 1 represents a front view. Fig. 2 is a top or plan view.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre- A is the back of the seat. B is the seatbottom. 0 is the foot-board, supported from the seat by the straps D D. E is a supporting-frame, consisting of two uprights, F F, connected near their lower endsby the crossrail G. The seat B is arranged between these uprights so that it will play freely up and down and be guided thereby. H is an elliptic spring between the seat and the cross'rail G. The uprights F F of the frame E are confined in grooves in the sides of the wagon-box, so that the seat may be readily removed from one place to another of the same box, or be used on any other wagon. The grooves on the sides of the wagon may be made by means of upright cleats securedto the sides by screws or nails. The seat-bottom projects at each end, as seen in the drawing, and the ends are slotted to receive the uprights F F up against the arm-pieces I I. J J are upright cleats 0nthe outside of the arm-pieces, which serve to steady the seat against the uprights of the frame E. The amount of vertical play allowed the seat depends upon the strength of the spring. This makes a most convenient and easy seat to ride in, and well adapted to the purposes for which it is intended.
We do not limit ourselves to the precise form or arrangement of any of the parts herein described, as they may be varied without departing from our invention.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The portable spring-seat, consisting of the seat B, having sides I and cleats J, and with or without foot-board, combined with the uprights F, cross-framing G, and spring H, arranged between the seat and cross-framing, all constructed and arranged substantially as .set forth.
2. In combination with the sides I and uprights F, the cleats J, substantially as set Witnesses:
