To all whom it may concern:
,Bc it known that l, MANUEL ROCHA PAvoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of 'Oakland in the county of Alameda and State of California, the undersigned, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fuel-Oil-Furnace Burners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements'in fuel oil furnace burners. Although my improved burner is particularly adapted to the use of crude oil or common fuel oil other oils for burning may be used with good results. The object of my invention is the production of a device capable of the production of an intensely hot dame in the minimum time, especially saving time and labor as well as fuel, the oil consumed producing the maximum amount of hcatunits due to the procof atomizing, gasifying and superheat'- ing accomplished by its use, result-ing in a highly combustible gas for the operation.
in the figure a tube A is held in a sleeve J' wherein it is secured. A branch B has' two rear openings and one front opening, each of said openings being threaded to engage parts to be held therein. One of the rear openings of said branch B is level, wherein the sleeve J holding the tube A is secured. The other rear opening of said branch B is inclined and is threaded for the reception of an appropriate feeding` pipeor connection. connecting tube U has one end -rcurt-)d in the front opening of said branch 'B and is held circumfcreutially by and its front end penetrates the rear end of the innertube F which is secured in the casingp M. The front end of the inner-tube F passes through and extends beyond the front end of outer tube or casing M. The outcr tube or casing M is provided with ports H opening into the channel formed between said outer tube and the inner tube l1". said tubes being spaced apart for the greater part of their length. The said channel continues into tube F by reason of the fact that the front end of tube D peneirating inner tube F is spaced from said inner' tube so as to form a channel between the said tubes. The forward ends of tubes 'A and D are tapered so as to facilitate the passage of the oil, steam or air contacting therewith. The burner may besupported in the furnace by attachment to branch B and by way of tube A.
In the operation fuel oil is injected through the-inclined passage of branch B while steam or compressed air is forced through tube AV and meets the entering oil forwardly, whence mixing they pass through tube. C and thence the resulting vapor blows through tube D of smaller caliber for compression as shown and forming a partial vacuum in space E such vacuum draws heated air through ports H-by way of tlie channel between tubes M and F leading into said tube F, wherein such heated air mixing with the vapoi` gasies it and thus produces a gas of highly 'combustible nature igniting at opening G.
Tubes A, C, D and-F are substantially longitudinally and centrally in alinement.
In the construction of said burner I have found that no machinery is required except a pipe cutter and a pipe threader and no material other than standard wrought iron or steel pipe and fittings of suitable sizes depending on the size of the burner.v I consider it possible to construct a burner of c'ast iron or ,cast steel and of extremely large sizes. I believe this materialv would make a better look-ing device, although more expensive, for such sizes.
I claim:
1. An oil lmrner having a rear member with twin passages therein converging forwardly to a single passage, hollow members extending forwardly from said rear member, ,a shell grippingl yone of said hollow men'ihers and ha ving` an extension therefrom forming a tubel having an opening therein. and an inner tube secured in said tube and spaced therefrom soas to form a channel lcadingwfrom said opening rearwardly to the rear end of said inner tube, the said inner tube containingr the front end of thc front member of said hollow members and thc caliber of said inner tube being greater than tl'le'cxterior of said front member so to form a channel between the same continuing from the channel first mentioned.
