STUCCO TOOL.

IJ aux m WITNESSES EIVIMET'I' 1v. CAMPBELL, or MOLINE, ILLINQIS.
STUCCO-TOOL.
To all whom it may concern."
- Be it knownthat I, EMMETT N. CAMPBELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Moline, in the county of Rock Island and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stucco-Tools, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is a stucco tool and has for its principalobject the production of a device which will facilitate the completion of an accurate piece of work without the danger of injury to the hands of the user.
Another object of this invention is the production of a stucco tool wherein the blade has a protector wall bent to extend at an acute angle thereto, thus allowing the handle which is connected to the wall to extend at such-angle as will allow the blade to be held to apply the stucco to the supporting surface without the danger of injury to the hands of the user.
Another object of this invention is the production of a stucco tool wherein the handle is removably mounted upon the protector wall, the handle being supported so as to be firmly held against accidental movement although facilitating its removal when desired.
Broadly stated, this invention consists of a blade having a protector wall extending at an acute angle thereto, a squared shank extending through the protector wall and having an internally threaded socket, a handle fitting upon said shank, a bolt projecting through the handle and engaging the shank for releasably holding the handle in a set position, on the protector wall.
With these and other objects in view, this invention consists of certain novel combinations, constructions and arrangements of part-s as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
One practical form of construction and assembly of the present invention will be illustrated and described in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a top plan view of the stucco tool, constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a central through the tool, and
Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2, looking in the direction of the arrows.
Referring to the accompanying drawings by numerals, it will be seen that the stucco longitudinal section Patented Mar. 18 1919.

5 at the rear end thereof for purposes to be I hereinafter set forth.
The shank 7 is provided with'a head 8 on one end, although an internally threaded socket 9 extends into the shank 7 from the opposite end thereof, as shown in Fig. 2.
This shank is extended through an opening 10 of the same shape as the shank, this opening being formed through the protector wall 6. The washer 11 is positioned upon the shank to bear against the head of the shank and also against the wall 6, thus reinforcing the wall at the point through which the shank: extends. The handle 12 is provided with a socket 13 extending thereinto from itsinner end and it will be noted that this socket 13 is square in cross section, as illustrated in Fig. 3. The bore 14 extends through the handle 12 fronrthe outer end thereof and communicates at its inner end with the socket 13. It is of course obvious that any suitable ornamentation may be provided for the handle without departing from the spirit of the present'i nvention as the device relates particularly to the retaining mechanism for holding the blade in engagement with the protector wall. The retaining bolt 15 is headed as indicated at 16, this head having a screw driver notch 16, While at its opposite end it is externally threaded as shown at 17. Accordingly, this bolt 16 may be passed through the bore and the handle 12 to have its externally threaded end 17 screwed into engagement with the shank by engaging the internally threaded socket 9 at this point. Therefore, it is ob vious the bolt will hold. the handle 12 in engagement with the shank 7 and accordingly, the engagement of the shank and handle will cause this handle to be held against rotation.
In the use of the ordinary wooden paddle for stucco work, the paddle wears and for this reason does not produce a uniform piece of work, while owing to the straight construction of the paddle, the hand of the plasterer or user is often injured, while the strain necessary to hold the paddle firmly quickly tires the user.
In the present device, however, the flat blade may be employed to clean the surface while the angle at which the to be stuccoed,
i guard wall 6 eXtends fr om'thejblade allows the handle to be easily gripped and the tool held to properly engage the surface being stuccoed, without'imparting the strain or. making it'necessary to so firmly hold, such 'a device as to cause such ing the plasterer or userto hold the device longer before tiring. Furthermore, the pro- I duction ofthe guardwallcauses the users hands to be protected, as the acute angle at which this wall extends causes the users hand to be far enough from the work to prevent injury thereto. Furthermore, the
detachable handle may be quickly applied 'to the shank and held thereon by the bolt,
thus causing the entiredevice to be'in position for properroperation. As above specified, the shank is squared toextend into a like-formed socket in vthe handle, passing through a squared opening in the wall, it is obvious tion upon thiswall.
Fromthe foregoing toolhas been provided whereinthe device may be easily assembled and held in correct position for operation. Under such conditions, the same may be properly operated for performing such kinds of work, without causing the hand of the user to be injured,
owing to the arrangement of the blade with respect to the wall and the manner in which 7 the handle extends from this Wall.
The foregoing description and the draw ings have reference to what may be consid- Oopiesof this patent may be obtained for a strain, thus allow the handle will be held "against rota description, it will beseen that a very simple and eflicientstucco five cents each, by addressing Washington, D. 6.

It is to be understood that I may make suchchanges'in construction and arrangement .and combination of parts, 'materials, dimensions, et cetera, as may prove expedient and fall within the scope. of the 1 appendedclaim. v V V r r 7 Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters P=atent, is
