To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MAX LEBOVITZ, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings, city and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in VVomens Undergarments, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to womens undergarments and particularly to chemise commonly called envelope chemise, and it is the object of the invention to combine with an under-garment of this character a lining or shield to prevent soiling of the chemise and other wearing apparel during the period of menstruation.

It is a further object of the invention to provide a catamenial apron or pad which is adapted to be removably secured to an undergarment, such as a chemise or the like, whereby the undergarment may be worn with or without the same.

In the drawing accompanying and-forming a part of this specification Figure 1 is a front elevation of an envelop chemise illustrating an embodiment of my invention, the chemise with my invention applied thereto being shown in full lines in the normal use of the combined chemise and catamenial apron, and being shown in dash lines in open position, the catamenial apron being also shown in dash lines in the position it is worn during the period of menstruation.

In the drawing I have shown an embodiment of my invention in connection with an undergarment known as an envelop chemise, comprising the usual body portion 4 provided with shoulder straps 5, andthe bottom of the back having a projecting portion 6 adapted to be detachably secured to the front of the garment adjacentthe bottom as by snap fasteners 7.

As stated it is the object of the invention to combine with an undergarment for women a catamenial apron to prevent soiling of the wearing apparel during the period of menstruation. This apron eomprises preferably an impervious fabric, such as rubberized fabric, to be secured to and serve as a lining for the garment. In the embodiment shown it comprises a sheet of material having a circular portion 8 to conform to a part of the lower portion of the back of the garment and removably secured to the inner side of the back by fasteners 10 with a projecting portion 9 (Fig. 1) to conform substantially to the ,projecting portion 6 of the garment or chemise. Garments of this character are usually made of a fabrie'of fine or delicate texture and to prevent the fasteners pulling from and tearing the garment there is provided a reinforcing strip 11, preferably of fabric. The projecting portion 9 of the apron may be removably secured to the projecting portion 6 of the back of the garment by a snap fastener 12, and attached with said projecting portion 6 to the front of the garment by the fasteners 7 to be worn in this position in the ordinary use of the garment, and which may be the position it is to be worn in previous to or after the period of menstruation.

In order that the apron may lie contiguous to the lower part of the abdomen the front or projecting portion 9 of the apron is adapted to be removably secured to the inner side of the front of the garment, as shown at 13, independent of the attachment of the projecting portion 6 of the back to the front, and as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The fastening means may also consist of snap fasteners one part of which fasteners is secured to the garment and the other part to the apron. To permit of attaching the apron in different positions to the front of the garment the garment may have a plurality of the fastening means, as shown at 14. To prevent pulling of the fastening means 7, 13 and 14 from the garment there is also provided a reinforcement 15 of fabric or the like.

The securing means 13, 1 1 for the apron are so located or positioned that they will come beneath the corset of the wearer and to permit of the ready attachment and detachment of the apron for toilet purposes or otherwise, the apron is made of releasably connected sections, one section comprising the circular portion 8 being detachably secured to the back of the garment in a fixed relation thereto, and the section or project ing portion 9 adapted to be detachably secured in different posit-ions with relation to the front of the garment. The sections are of which fasteners are connected to the respective sections of the apron. In Fig. 3 the sections of the apron are shown in detached or disconnected position.

The catamenial apron not only prevents the soiling of the apparel, but it also has a beneficial result of supporting the abdomen the supporting muscles or tendons of which relax during the period of menstruation.

Having thus described my invention, I claim:

1. The combination with a chemise having a projecting portion at the bottom of the back adapted to extend between the legs of the wearer to be detachably secured to the front'of the chemise, of a catamenial apron to form a lining for a part of the lower portion of the back of the chemise and conforming to the projecting portion of the back, and means to removably secure the apron thereto; said portion of the apron secured to the projecting portion of the back being adapted to be detachably secured with said portion to the front of the chemise, substantially as and for the purpose specified.

2. The combination with a chemise having a projecting portion at the bottom of the back to extend between the legs of the wearer to be detachably secured to the front of the chemise, of a catamenial apron to form a lining for a part of the lower portion of the back and conforming to the projecting portion of the back; means to removab-ly secure the apron to said back portion; and means to detachably secure said pontion of the apron confonming to the projecting porti-on of the back of the chemise being adapted to be detachably secured to the front of the chemise independent of said projecting portion, substantially as and for the purpose specified.

3. The combination with a chemise having a projecting portion at the bottom of the back to extend between the legs of the wearer to be detachably secured to the front of the chemise, of a catamenial apron comprising releasably connected sections, one section to form a. lining for a part of the lower portion of the back and removably secured thereto, and another, section conforming to the projecting portion of the back said section being adapted to be detachably secured to said projecting portion of the back and with said portion to the front of the chemise, and to be detached therefrom and removably secured to the front of the chemise independent of the projecting portion of the back, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
