The inner or back wall of the hopper converging toward the front wall which is attaclied to the door plate m, forms with the parallel and approximately triangular side walls of the hopper a downwardly inclined chute into the chimney flue when the door is closed, as shown b full lines in Fig. 1. When the hopper is tipped forward or outward into receiving position, as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 1. the inner ed e of the rear wall seats against the top wal of the frame section a and closes the hopper door opeiiin into the room or apartment with which it communicates.
The door plate m is formed along its lower edge to a segment of a cylinder com centi-ie with the axis of the pivot bolts or pins n. and makes a close joint with th lower cross wall or member of the door jamb or seat 'o on the frame member b in any position of the door plate and hopper, as shown in Fig.' 1.
The sheet metal of which the hopper 9 is constructed, is ent. and lapped as shown in Fig. 3, so that while the front wall is severed from the side walls which it overlaps, the back or inner wall is integral withethe side and front walls, and seained joints which tend to rust and break and in which dirt lodges, are thus avoided.
The back or inner wall of the hopper is longer than the front wall or door plate in. in a direction perpendicular to the pivot axis of the hopper, so that when the hopper is tipped forward or out-ward into receiv iupr position. as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 1, its back or inner wall will extend ohliquely upward across the opening into the chimney line from the outer and lower part of the jamb or seat y o n the frame section b, and by engagement with the inner and upper art. of the frame section a, will arrest and hold the hopper in that position and close the opening into the chimney flue, without obstructing the flue itself, and so that when the hopper is tipped backward or inward into discharging position, as shown by full lines. its back or inner wall will extend obliquel downward to the chimney flue at a sufficient pitch to insure the discharge of the contents of the hopper into the flue.

A hopper door for refuse incinerators comprising an inner frame section adapted to be permanently set in a lateral opening into a chimney flue and forming a ground for plastering the chimney face, a ylelding plaster support attached to said frame section adjacent to its outer edge, an outer frame section detachably fastened to and overlapping the inner frame section and plasber support, and a hopper pivotally mounted in and removable with the outer frame section, the outer wall of the hopper closing the opening into 'the flue when the hopper is in discharging position and the inner wall 'wardly projecting reinforcing and anchoring iange, an outer frame section fitted and adapted to be adjustably and detachably fastened to the inner frame section and having a downwardly and outwardly inclined seat, and a hopper pivotally mounted in the outer frame section adjacent to the lower side of said seat and removable therewith from the inner frame section, the front wall of the hopper closing against said seat when the hopper is tipped inward into discharging position and the back wall of the hopper engaging with thc upper and inner part of the inner frame section and closing the opening into the chimney flue when the hopper is tipped outward mto receiving position.
