THEODORE R. TREIBER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO THE BRUNSWICK-BALKE- COLLENDER COMPANY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION OF DELAWARE.
DEVICE FOR RESURFACING CUE-TIPS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 11, 1919.
Application filed August 17, 1918. Serial No. 250,273.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THEODORE R. TREIBER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Resurfacing Cue-Tips, of which the following is a specification. V
After a one has been used for some time the leather tipwill become hard, fiat, smooth and spread out beyond the plane of the stick at the tip end unless proper attention is given to avoid this condition which prevents skilful play with the cue.
The object of this invention is to provide a simple and eflicient device for re-surfacing cue tips and which can be readily used for keeping tips in proper condition.
In the accompanying drawing illustrating the invention, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device showing the flap extended;
Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the flap folded over the body, and
Fig. 3 is an edge view of the device with the flap in extended position.
Referring to the drawing the device comprises a rigid body consisting preferably of a thin, flat, rectangular block 1, of wood or other suitable material, to the sides of which are secured two flexible sheets 2 which extend beyond the other end of the body and have their extending portions glued or otherwise secured together to form a flexible flap 3. The outer faces of the sheets 2 are provided with abrading material 4, and said sheets preferably consist of sand paper, emery paper, emery cloth, or some other similar sheet abra-ding material. An opening 5 is provided in either or both ends of the device by which it can be hung on a nail or other projection when not in use.
Cue tips are usually made of leather and they should have a natural soft and roughened surface and should not project transversely beyond the tip end of the cue. After continued use tips become hardened, smooth and flattened, and often spread out forming a ragged edge. My invention provides a simple device which can be readily used for restoring the tip to its original condition. The body of the device is adapted for cleaning and roughening the face of the tip and for trimming the edges thereof. The flap may'also be used for the same pur pose but it is particularly useful for rounding the tip and may also be used for cleaning the cue.
The device may be made in various shapes and sizes and of a variety of material and I reserve the right to make all such changes as fairly fall within the scope of the inven-,
tion.
I claim 1. A device for resurfacing cue tips comprising a rigid member and a strip of abrading material secured to said member and adapted to be wrapped around a one tip or folded upon said member.
2. A device of the character described comprising a rigid body and a flexible flap secured thereto, said body and flap having an abrading surface.
3. A device of the character described comprising an elongated body and an integral abrading sheet secured on one side of said body and extending flexibly beyond one end of the body.
A. A device of the character described comprising a body and two flexible sheets secured to opposite sides of said body and extending beyond one end thereof, the outer sides of said sheets having abrading surfaces, and the extending portion of said sheets being secured to each other.
5. A device of the character described comprising a thin, flat, elongated body, two flexible sheets secured to opposite sides of the body and extending beyond one end thereof, the extending portion of said sheets being secured together to form a flexible flap, and the outer sides of said sheets having abrading surfaces throughout their length.
