Be it known that I, HARRY ALPHoNsn VVIDMER, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at 32 to 34: (llerkenwell road, London, E. (L, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in and Relating to -Fountain-Pens andthe like, of which the following is a specification. i The present invention relates to improvements in the fountain pen or other writing instrument in which a blotting attachment is combined with the pen or the like in such a manner that it can be slid'into the interior of the cap of the pen when out of use and easily ejected from said cap when required. In the preferred arrangement the blotting attachment formed an independent unit and therefore had the disadvantage in practice that it was sometimes mislaid and not at hand when required.

According to the present invention a fountain pen is provided with a blotting attachment of the type described in which the cap provided with an opening adapted to be closed by a rotating shutter through which opening the blotter is adapted to project; the movement of the shutter on or ofi the opening being such that it is adapted to force said blotter into the cap against the influence of its spring or to release said attachment and allow it to take up a position projecting throu h said opening.

My invention is ilustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 shows a sectional View of the pen with the shutter in position over the opening in the cap.

This shutter is adapted to be turned so as to cover the opening and to compress the blotter into the .cap against the influence of its spring 6 or turned to a position in which it is off the opening and consequently releases the blotter and allows it to project through said opening 7 as shown in Fig. 2.

The blotting attachment of my invention is arranged so that it can be easily die mantled and renewed when desired. The cap is provided with a screw-on end piece 10' shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
