Description

E. P: THIERINGER.
URINAL FOR FEMALES.
PP-LICATION FILED APR. 5. 1916,
Patented Mar. 11, 1919.
' view taken on line EMMA PAULINE THIERINGER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
URINAL FOR FEMALES.
To all whom 2'25 may concern:
Be it known that .I, EMMA PAULINE THIERINGER, a subject ofthe Emperor of Germany, and a resident of New York, New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Urinals for Females, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a urinal which may be used with greater comfort than those heretofore constructed, which is more convenient to the requirements of an invalid and which will enable its use without risk of accident or soiling, as hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawings. Figure 1 represents a perspective View of my improved construction; Fig. 2 shows a sectional 22 of Fig. 4; Fig. 3 shows a sectional view taken on line of Fig. 4; Fig. 4 shows a plan. view and Fig. 5 shows a similar view of a modified form of my device.
In my construction as illustrated in Figs. 1-4, 1- represents a bottom plate tapering both forwardly and rearwardly from a line approximately. central thereof; 2 represents a substantially vertical sidewall projecting upwardly from said bottom plate 1; 3 represents a. hood superimposed upon the forward portion of the vertical side wall 2, and 4 represents a horizontal flange extending from the' side wall 2 inwardly and above 'a portion of the rearward surface of the bottom plate 1 so as to form a contracted slot 5 which is placed into proper register with the patients anatomy to receive the urine.
In my improved construction the rearward part of the bed pan is capable of being brought into proper position with regard to the patient and the inturned flange serves the double function of providing a seat and also supporting the buttocks of the patient, and preventing any part of the patients anatomy from being immersed or coming into contact with the contents of the urinal.
The conformation moreover of my construction, 'byreason of the forward taper ing of the bottom plate 1 and its vertical. side wall, permits of a more comfortable adjustmcnt of the device to the patient in so far asits tapered construction permits the legs of the patient to be more comfortably accommodated. For the purpose of permitting the contents/to be emptied from the un- Specification of Letters Patent.

of thehood 3, thus leaving spaces or outlets 'nal the flanged portion 4 terminates short as at 4* so that by tilting the urinal toward I one side the liquid may be guided out.
In Fig. 5 I have shown a modified con" struction of my device wherein the hood 3 is dispensed with and in lieu thereof a flange;
similar to the flange 4., is substituted to pre-- vent accidental egress of the contents.
In the construction shown in Figs. 1-4,
the conformation of the hood is such that better accommodate the patients thighs.
While I have shown my invention in connection with two of its specific embodiments, I desire it to be understood that I. do not limit myself to such specific embodiments as obviously the details of configuration shown may be varied without departing from the spirit of my invention.
What I claim is:
1. A urinal for females, comprising a fiat plate tapering both forwardly and rearwardly, a continuous upright wall along the perimeter of said plate, a member projecting inwardly from the upper the forward portion thereof, and a iiange projecting inwardly from the upper portion of said wall at the rear portion thereof and of substantially uniform width, less than half the width of the tapering forward portion. of the bottomplate, thus leaving a longitudinal" slot between the inner edge portions of said flange, the forward ends of said flange being spacedfroni the rear edge of said member, and located on the rearwardly-tapering portion of the urinal, rearwardly of the widest part of the bottom plate, to provide two lateral outlets e blique with reference to the longitudinal axis of the urinal.
2. A. urinal for females, said urinal comprising a, fiat bottom plate tapering from approximately midway of its length toward the front and toward the rear, a side wall edgeof said wall atside Wall and. over a, portion of the surface of the bo'btom plate, said flange having a cut-away portion forn'ling an ou'clet for the contents of the urinal, a hood for the front portlon of the urinal, said hood rlsmg upwazrc'ily from the 'side Walls and having at each side a concamed outer surface intermediate ifis 'baseand its apex.
In Witness whereof I have hereunte set my hand this 25th day of March, 1916.
PAULINE THIERINGER.
