Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM F. BLAKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of 5 Michigan, have invented a new and useful Skillet, Griddle, and Bake-Pan Oiler, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to skillet,griddle and bake pan oilers in which a cloth or webbing to apply the cooking oil is held fast in a handle; and the objects of my improvement are, first, to provide an eflicient device of the type named; second, to provide a handle that holds the cloth securely; and, third, to provide a device in which it is an easy matter to remove the old cloth and insert a new one.

I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a view of the device as a whole when ready for use; Fig. 2, a vertical section on the line ww of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3, a detail view of the holding band.

Similar figures refer to similar parts throughout the several views.

The device is spade-shaped and consists of the handle 1, the blade 2, the cloth or webbing 3, and the holding band 9. On each side of blade 2 just below the handle 1 are the extensions 4.- and at the lower edge of the blade are similar extensions 5, just a little above are the round projections 7. The slot 8 extends almost the entire width of the blade 2 near its upper edge. The holding band 9 made preferable of spring material is shown in Fig. 3, and in the center of its ends are the openings 10 which fit over projections 7 when the band is in place thus leaving an open space on each side of blade 2 as is readily seen in Fig. 2.

The cloth 3 may be one thickness or several and is threaded through slot 8 with its ends coming under band 9 on each side of blade 2. When inserting cloth 3, pressure is exerted on band 9 so that openings 10 slip oif of projections 7 and band 9 may be pushed up, extensions 4 and 5 keep it from slipping 01f of blade 2 ent1rely. Cloth 3 is now threaded through slot 8 and ends arranged to meet evenly as at 13, one end on each side of blade 2. Band 9 is now pushed down over the cloth and openings 10 fit over projections 7 thus holding the cloth in place. The lower portion of blade 2 acts as a spreader keeping the cloth spread out and aflording a firm surface to oil pans or griddles. When not in use the oiler may be hung up by opening 1 1.

The operation of this device is easily understood when desirous of oiling a griddle, skillet, or bake pan, the oiler is dipped in cooking oil or grease and then brushed over the surface to be greased. It will go into corners of square pans and will give a heavy or thin coating of oil as needed, while in use the cloth cannot be displaced as it is held in position by the band 9. When cloth becomes greasy or burned the old one is pulled out and a new one inserted in a few minutes as explained above.

Of course it is understood that the details of construction may be changed without departing from the spirit of my invention.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. In a skillet, griddle and bake pan oiler, the combination of a holder with a blade having a longitudinal slot and provided with extensions to limit the vertical movement of a holding band at its upper and lower edges, and a cloth and means for holding said cloth in close proximity to the blade on each side.

2. In a skillet, griddle and bake pan oiler, the combination of a holder with a slotted blade having extensions at each end and a round projection just above the lower extensions, and a rectangular holding band with openings in its ends, said openings fitting over said projections to hold the band in its relative position to said blade.

3. In a skillet, griddle and bake pan oiler, the combination of a holder with a blade having a longitudinal slot at one end, a cloth, and a holding band fitting over said blade and having openings on each side of said blade through which said cloth passes, thus holding it in close contact with the sides of said blade.

4. In a device of the character described,
