ATTACHMENT FOR HEADWEAR.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I. I'lI'ZRYEY D. CLARK, citizen of the United States, residing at Decatur, in the county of Macon and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Headwear, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an attachment which is intended to be connected with head wear such as the cap of a motorist to pre .vent the glare from the head-lights of an ap- I proaching vehicle temporarily blinding the wearer of the cap.

The primary object of the invention is to provide a small and inexpensive attachment of this character which may be quickly conneeted with or removed from the headwear when the occasion requires.

Another object of the invention is to so construct the attachment that it may be carried upon the headwear in an outof the way position when not in use.

\Vith these and other objects in view. the invention resides in the novel combination and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.

- Referring now the letter A designates an article of headwear which in this instance has been shown as a motorists cap. to the vizor of which is shown applied an attachmentconstructed in accordance with the invention.

The attachment- B is intendedto be employed by the wearer his eyes from the blinding glare from headlights of approaching vehicles and comprises a flexible transparent or translucent strip of any suitable material such as celluloid or the like.

straight top edge 7 and a curved bottom edge 8 which causes the strip B to gradually decrease in width from its central portion toward the rounded ends 6 of the strip.

The strip B is held with its inner side against the edge of the vizor of the cap A by hooks 9 which a re engaged with the vizor and are provided on their shanks with loops 10 which are threaded through pairs of spaced eyes adjacent the rounded ends of the strip B.

The flexible transparent strip has formed integral therewith intermediate the rounded ends 6 a pair of angularly extending ears l2 and 1:3 which when the strip is in use are arrz-mged respectively above and below the vi'/-:,r of the cap A. The car 12 is disposed contiguous to the straight edge 7 of the strip and is adapted through contact with the top of the vizor of the cap A. to main tain the strip in depressed position on the vizor to shield the motorists eyes from the glare from the head-lights of an approaching vehicle. The ear 13 is disposed contiguous to the curved edge 8 of the strip and when the strip is not in use is adapted to engage the bottom of the vizor of the cap A to limit the upward movement of the strip, the. strip being maintained in raised position by frictional contact between it and the vizor edge.

lVhen the flexible transparent strip is in an out of the way position upon the cap A and the wearer of the cap desires to employ the strip as an eye shield, the strip is pulled downwardly until the strip is supported by the car 12 upon the vizor in the position disclosed in Fig. l in the drawing.

The strip is held in tight contact with the edge of the vizor so that it, will be held in its adjusted positions by friction.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing it is apparent that an attachment for headwear has been provided which though inexpensive ot manufiicture may be advantageously employed for the purpose set forth.

Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new. is:

1. An attachment for the purpose set forth comprising a flexible strip of material having means for connecting its ends with the vizor of a cap so that the inner side of the strip opposed to the edge of the vizor and also having spaced stops to engage the by limit the up and down strip on the same.

2. An attachment for movements of the the purpose set forth comprising a flexible translucent strip gradually decreasingin w idth from its central portion toward its ends, angulzu'ly extending ears on said strip intermediate its ends, and attaching hooks on said strip eX 10' tending beyond opposite ends thereof.
