ll'ACO'B KAUFMANN, `OIE' PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR T0 STEEL I-IEDDLE MANUFACTURING COMPANY, 0F PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, A CORPORATION y OF PENNSYLVANIA.
To all 'whom z' may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB KAUFMANN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, .in the -county of Philadelphiar and State of Pennsylvania, have invented ment as is necessary when the false reed is i made from,yarn as is now -commonly practised. My invention also contemplates a construction of the reed dents which, being slidable in the frame, will readily adjust themselves to any count of the warp, and the dents being made of thin flat metal while affording sufficient strength, the same will not darken the point of operation nor crowd the warp in its passage therethrough. More specifically considered my invention further contemplates a construction which permits n a very close installation of the dents in the The nature and' characteristic features of invention will be more readily understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, in which;v
Figure 1 is a front elevation, partly broken away, of a reed having dents embodying the main features of my present in-1 vention mounted therein; y
Fig. 2 is a transverse section of a portion of the frame taken on* the line 2--2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a similar section taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 4f is a perspective view, enlarged, of one of the reed dents detached. '4 Referring to the drawings, the reed dent constituting the principal element of my present invention is shown in enlarged perspective in Fig. 4 of the drawings and com- 'Specification of Letters Patent.
' REED FOR LOOIVIS.
Application filed September 15, 1917. Serial No. 191,515.
prises a thin flat strip of metal substantially rectangular in cross section throughout'the entire length of the strip of which the same ismade and having its greater dimension in cross section extending in the same direction as the run of the warp through the loom. At each end of the dent, the metal strip. is bent around without twisting out of the plane of the main body portion 5 to form loops or eyes 6, the thickness of which is consequently the same as that of said body portion 5, while the greater transverse dimension of the cross section at any portion of the eye is the same as that of the greater dimension of the cross section of said body portion 5. 4'By this arrangement it will be vpossible to mount the dents in very close relation while at the same time the loop or eye will be of suflicient strength for its required purpose. l
The preferred manner of mounting the dents is shown in Figs. 1, 2and 3 and con, sists preferably of a rect-angular frame having top and bottom bars 8 preferably made of wood or similar material. lThetop and bottom bars 8 are provided with slotsll through which the dents 5 extend and these slots 9 communicate with enlarged interior slotsr12 within which the eyes 6 of the dents are mounted. The eyes 6 at each end of the dents are threaded on a rod or bar 13, which extends from lendto end of the frame bars n will aus be geen that there is provided Ha reed construction particularly adaptable for false reeds in which the dents will be `strong and durable yet simple andv inexpensive to manufacture, which are so constructed as to permit a. very close installation, and which will be freely slidable in the frame, to thereby render the same adjustable to any count of the warp. Further more the dents vwill wear practically indefinitely and will not require constant replacement.
Having v thus described the nature and 4characteristic features i of my l invention, tending in the same di'reetion as the run of what I. claim as new and desire to securethe Warp, and' having eyes at each vend 10 by Letters Patent is; formed by the strip being bent around in the A reed dent formed of astrip of thin [Same plane las the main body portion.
5 Hat metal of a cross-section substantially In testimony whereof I have hereunto rectangular and uniform throughout its ensigned my name. tire.1e11gth,y with the greater dimension of A the :cross-section of the body portion eX.- JACOB KAUFMANN.
