Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 11, 1919.
Application filed September 7, 1918. Serial No. 253,108.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FIRMAN R. GRIs'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittston, in the county of of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Envelope; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains and use the same.
This invention relates to envelops, more particularly to safety envelops.
and
tudinally Luzerne and State to make ,folded envelop,
It is, receive or which are of the envelop is foldable on the line 6 longiof the front 2 and is provided with I a back portion 7, the marginal portions 88 of the inner face of which are adapted to receive or may be provided with an adhesive. This back portion is shown as prolvided with an elongated aperture 9 adjacent the fold line 10 of the envelop body beyond which line there is provided a panel 11 forming an intermediate or fly sheet in the and which has zones 12l2 adjacent its ends and on its inner surface provided with an an object of the present invention to pro-\jj-adhesive.
a single sheet of from which the been scaled vide an envelop made of paper or other material contents, after the envelop has cannot readily be removed. object of the present invention to provide an envelop which is of simple construction, which is inexpensive to manufacture, and is extremely simple in the method of its folding and closing, and which, at the same time, gives the desired protection to the contents of the envelop.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, the combination, the parts and in details and arrangements of the parts as more particularly described in the following specification relative to the accompanying drawing, in which one embodiment is illustrated, and wherein- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the back of the envelop showing the parts just being sealed.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the unfolded body of the envelop;
Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing the envelop partly folded and ready for the insertion of its contents;
Fig. 4: is a transverse section through the envelop; and
Fig. 5 is a the envelop.
In the embodiment of the invention herein illustrated the body of the envelop or the sheet from which it is folded comprises a front or address portion 2 of any desired roportions having at one longitudinal edge a foldable flap 3 which is provided along its marginal edge with zones 4: to be adhesively secured to contiguous parts when the envelop is folded. Along the ends of the front 2 are provided tongues 5-5 adapted to have or receive gum on each surface. The body longitudinal section through It is also an B When it is desired to erect the envelop \ijfrom the flat or unfolded body the intermediate panel 11 at the bottom end of the 1 sheet is folded over the fold line 10 upon x the inner face of the back 7 and this latter is then bent upwardly and over the inner face of the front 2 so that these parts occupy the position shown in Fig. 3, which enables the ready insertion of the end tongues 5 between the now adjacent surfaces 8 and 12 of the back and panel, these end tongues being adapted to receive or are provided with an adhesive on both faces to match with the adjacent portions of the back and panel so that when adhesive on the tongues is moistened or so that when adhesive is applied to the tongues and these inserted between the back 7 and the panel 11 then the panel is securely held in its inwardly folded position. The flap 3 is shown as provided with a curved outer edge which may be inserted now through the aperture 9 and the surfaces i-i on its opposite sides adhesively secured either by the moistening of the gum thereon or by applying an adhesive, one face of the flap 3 being secured to the panel 11 while the outer face is secured to the inner surface of the back 7.
From this it will be seen that there is formed between the front 2 and the panel 11 a chamber for the reception of matter intended to be inclosed in the envelop, and that the flap 3 is doubly secured in sealed condition by its attachment to the panel 11 and the back 7. Furthermore, the panel 11 is secured to the inturned tongues 5 as also are the ends of the back 7.
What is claimed is:
An envelop comprising a body portion having a front, a back foldably connected to one edge of the front, and a panel foldably connected to one edge of the back, the
back having an opening adjacent to its outer edge and nearly the length of the back, a flap fold connected to the opposite edge of the front and adapted to be inserted through the elongated opening of the back to snugly fit therein at the corners of the back and having both faces of its margin gunlmed to secure it to the back and to the panel, and.
means for connecting the back to the panel and closing the ends of the means comprising end tongues foldably connected to the front and insertible between the adjacent portions of the back and the panel and gunnned on both faces.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature. 15
