Specication of Lettcrsstent.
,application filed February 7, 1913. arial No. 215,861.
llliis invention relates to new and useful improvements in neclties and has vfor its lll lli
S il
object the provision oi an article of this character which may be tied in the usual and ordinary manner by the wearer and after having been tied may be removed troni and placed upon` the neck without untyiiig, and yet be capable of all of the. adjustments that are present in the ties that have heretofore been. used, and which must be completely untied for removal.
in this manner the life of the necktie is prolonged by the elimination of the constant tying and untying now necessary, and at the saine time the objectionable features 'and characteristics of the ready-tied scartare not present.
Furthermore when the knot becomes soiled or otherwise damaged the present scari may be ictied at another point in its lengtlito presenta fresh, clean and undamaged knot.
'lilith the above and other objects in view, as will be apparent. this invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts and features, all as l.-%einafter more 'fully described, claiineclandtdllustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein lfigure l is a perspective view of a collar,
partly brolien away, illustrating one form of the, tie or scarf forming the subject inatf'm ot the present invention in conyuiiction eva merewitli g 2 is a similar view illustrating another iorin of the present invention in conjunction with a collar;
3 is an elevation ci the connection u in the forni of the invention shown iiligzgand Figs. 4 and are details of the snap catches used in' both of the-shown forms of the invention, b'ut illustrated as adapted in that form shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
The present invention is exemplified in the drawing as being carried out in a fourin-liand tie, and while it may be readily applied to a bow tie, the present purposes will be amply served by the application illustrated and the following description Will bc so limited. i
.lucen-ying ,out the present device, a fourin-liand tie of any usual and chaincteristicv design including the outer scarf end or seo tion 10, the inner scarf end or sect-ion 11, connected together by the relatively non "row neck band 12, and toward which the scarf ends taper, constitutes the basis upon which the improved structure formino] the subject matter hereoic is predicated.
ln that form of the invention shown in Fig. l, the neck band 12 of the tie is ered as at 13 near the outer scart end or section 1l, and the adjoining ends so created are provided with the elements oi a snap catch i4, such as that illustrated in detail in.
Thus the ends created by the `cut 13 may be overlapped and the elements oli the catch 14- interlocked, thereby forming' a solid neck band. llhen the parts are so arranged the tie may be placed about the collar C and removed Without further disturbing' the' knot 15. lt may be then replaced by insert ing the neck band 10, with its ends disconnected, inthe collar, fastening the collar,
connecting the elements of the snap catch. 14, and adjusting the knob 15 in the orthodax manner.. l y
ln its use and functions the foren or adaptation o the invention shown in Figs. il to l5 inclusive is identical with that shown in Fig. l. Here the neck band l2 is severed. near the outer scarf end or section 1l, to
create the ends 12El and 12", which in the use and operation of the tie are separated one from the other. The' end l2 of the y neck band 12 has a tab 16 (Figs. 3 and 4)' ict lll@ Y a pivot plate 20. The pin 21 of this Pivot plate 20 acts as a permanent pivot tor a carrier 22, formed of small Wire or other suitable material, bent to create a major loop 23 and minor loop 94, the latter being 'especially adapted to permanently and yet pivotally engage the pin 2l of the plate 20. A tape 25 is attached to the major 'loop 23 of the carri and by means of the female element of a snap catch, carried by the free end thereof, cooperating with the male element lll constitutes a detac able connection between the ends l2 and 12b of the neck; band 12e This form o1c tie when used for the first time is placed about the collar with the ele,- ments le and. -lllb of the snap catch conneet/Btl and the tie is tied and' adjusted in the manner. rllo remove the tie from the enel collar the'elements le and lat" of the snep catch are disconnected after the "knot 15 has been slid downwardly'on the inner scerf end or section ll. lt at once becomes manifest that afte' thevscert has once been tied it cen be replaced by loeating the neclt band With the tane 25 discon nectecl from the tabf ebout the collar, at ter which the coller may be attached.5 at which time the tape 25 will extend downwardly es illustrated in xiottefl lines in Fig. 2. The end l2 end the tab lo may then be pnllefl clown slightly and attached tothe tape 915 by means of the elements 14. and lll" of the snap catch, While these operating;
portions of Athe tie are moire or less tree ot' the collar. The knot l5 may then be atl-l justecl, which adjustment draws the tape into alnement with the remainder el? the necloband, 11?; Where it 'forms a continuation thereo'I is loceteel entirely Within the collar or in .its proper place With yitespeot to the collar. 'lShus the neck bandl ie retained in its normal position in the collar C, and is not materially displaced. 'for the purpose of connecting the ende l2 and 12b o 45 the neck band l2. At the same timev the ends l2 anal 12b oi" the neck. band may be secured together in a manne? which is net hampered because of the fact that these ende are located entirely within the collar. Hence, te a connection between the elemente Ma and 141 of the snap catch is freely estebliehet Without interference from the collar.
What ie claimed. isz- 1. As an article of inannact-nreE a necktic constituting e neck band terminating in scarf ends, said neck band being severed and having a tape pvoted to one of the ends created by severing the' neck band, said. tape having means for detachably securing it at G0 its 'free enel. to the remaining enel so created.
2 As an article of manufacture, a necktie constituting Ya neck band. terminating in scarf encls, said neck band being severed4J a tape piyoteel to one el the enfle so vcreated and listing an element of soa? catch se cereal to the enel thereof 'iter engagement with the corresponding element et the snap catch to the remeining enel of neel: band. create@ by set'etingithe lattern 7G S3. its 'article ont mannitaeture necltie cot' tituting a nece band terminating scart ende9 said. neck hand-being severed .a teh securefl. to ene of; the eo and, lia-ying an element oli te snap catch ee euretl thereto, etape piyetetl to the copo site eze-t created by severing the necktie and providett at free terminal with the corresponding e, enao
