TICKET-HOLDER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE W. ABBOTT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newtonville, county of Middlesex, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ticket- Holders, of whichthe following isaspecification. r

This .invention relates to an attachment for adapting the standard railway ticket selling equipment to new issue tickets of different size or shape than those of previous issues still current.

In railwayticket selling offices individual holders for tickets to the various stations on the system are arranged within the convenient reach of the ticket seller.. Each holder consists of a simple tube or magazine which is so constructed and arranged that the tickets gravitate toward the delivery end thereof and are there held under the influence of a gravity follower, and may: be withdrawn one at a time as occasion demands. The tubespartially envelop the ticket pack and are made to snugly receive a ticket of standard dimensions at the time of installation. However, in spiteof the difiiculties and inconveniences involved, other considerations sometimes compel changes in shape or size. a a

The equipment. used represents a substantial investment and can not be readily changed to accommodate new issue tickets of smaller size. It is, of course, not desirable to destroy the old issue tickets, and since the standard holders will not properly accommodate the new issue, it is essential that some means be provided whereby they may continue to be used for both issues,-

without interruption at the ticket window.

To the end, therefore, of providing such means, I have devised my present invention. In it, I adapt the standard tube to the service of the new issue tickets through the use of an auxiliary follower holder designed to fit within the standard holder and while maintaining'the feed of the old tickets presents the tickets of the new issue immediately upOn the withdrawal of the last old ticket, thus obviating the necessity of replacing the standard holder, and permitting tickets of both issues to be served from the same holder. My attachment may be produced at a cost less than the replacement cost of the standard holders, and does not 7 interfere with the ordinary use of the stand- Specifioation of Letters Patent. I have indicated generally at 1 a ticket holder of standard construction which is adapted to be supported in the usual cabinet or rack so as to be disposed in downwardlyinclined relation whereby the contained tickets held vertically will gravitate toward its lower or delivery end and may be individually withdrawn by a downward pull as occasion demands.

The holder 1 is atube or magazine adapted to partially envelop the pack of tickets T, and comprises a relatively flat bottom wall 2 and longitudinally extending side walls 3 defining a trough or channel-shaped receiver for the tickets, which are placed edgewise therein from the upper open end of the holder and feed toward the lower end, being assisted in this action by the auxiliary holder, as will be later described.

The forward ends of the side walls 3 are cut at an angle to the bottom wall 2, and one of said walls is extended to a height slightly greater than the longest dimension of the ticket and is turned inwardly as indicated at 5 to overlie the upper edges of the tickets. See Fig. 2. The column of tickets is supported in the relation illustrated at the lower end of the holder 1 by any suitable supporting devices, as the inturned stop flanges 6 of the side walls.

In order to adapt a holder of this type to tickets of smaller size, I provide an attachment in the nature of an auxiliary ticket magazine 7 adapted to fit within the holder 1 in rear of the pack of tickets T and to itself act as a gravity follower to force the tickets T toward the delivery end of the holder 1. The magazine 7 accommodates the tickets of the new issue, indicated at T and serves these tickets in substantially the same manner that the standard tickets T are served from vthe holder 1.

For this purpose, the adapting magazine 7 preferably embodies a bottom wall 8, side walls 9 and stop flanges 10, corresponding substantially in form and purpose to the similar elements of the holder 1, the shorter of the side walls being, however, turned upon itself as indicated at 11 to freely bear against the adjacent short side wall of the holder 1;

The channel-shaped receiver thus defined fits snugly the pack of tickets T the longer side wall, if desired, having a suitable lip or flange 12 adapted to overlie the upper edge of the pack, and fits freely within the standard holder 1 in rear of the pack of tickets T. A gravity follower, preferably a rolling ball or marble a is placed behind the ticket packT to cause the tickets T to abut the stop flanges 10, and additionally urging the supplemental holder 7 to follow the old issue tickets to their delivery point.

In using my device, the supplemental holder 7 containing tickets T of the new issue, is inserted in rear of the tickets T of previous issue contained in the standard holder 1, and the tickets T withdrawn in the usual manner until exhausted, whereconstruction of my invention may obviously be made, within the limits of the appended claims.

What I therefore claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. In a ticket holder of the class described, a ticket tube comprising a channel-shaped member supported at an incline, a stop flange at the lower end of said tube, an auxiliary holder slidable within said tube and having a flanged lower end=disposedlin effective relation to said first named" stop flange to feed and hold the. tickets contained in said tube, and a gravity follower effective through said auxiliary holder to hold tickets against said holder stop.w

2. An attachment for adapting a standard ticket holder for tickets of predetermined size to the service of tickets of a different size, comprising an auxiliary holder forthe tickets of different size adapted to slidably fit within the standard holder in downwardly inclining position therein andin rear of the tickets of predetermined size and act 7 as a gravity follower against said tickets.

3. A ticket holder adapted for the-service of tickets of diflerent size, comprising a tube adaptedtobe supported at an incline and having a stop at its lower end against which tickets of one size contained in said tube rest, a substantially similar tube-of smaller size freely slidable in said: first named tube and having astop at its lower end against which tickets of aidifierent size contained in said smallertube rest, said smaller-sized tube acting. as agravity fol-- 101761 against said tickets in the first-named til e. f i
