Be itlmown that l, GEORGE S. BLAKESL'E, e. citizen of the United States, residing at Cl'iicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful improvements in lVashing-lllcchines, of which the following is a specification, refereuce being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to washing machines, and has for its object to provide a new and improved construction in such machines by which a portion. of the water thrown upon the conveyor by the paddle wheel or similar device is directed upward into contact with the lower face of the dishes or other articles upon the conveyor while another portion of the water is directed above and upon the upper surfaces of such articles. The means by which I have accomplished this object are illustrated in the accompanying *avvings and are hereinafter specifically described.

.With the tank -17 filled with hot .water up to a desired point, with the shaft 51 being rotated at comparatively high speed in cloclfivise direc n in Figs. 2 and 3 and with the shaft being: rotated in counterclockwise direction. in Fig. 1, the machine is ready for the washing operation. As will be readily understood, the puddle-Wheel 52 in rotating at high-speed in the housing 50 in such direction that the lower portion thereof travels coward the conveyor, forces a considerable volume. water laterally toward the conveyor. A considerable portion of the water which is thrown toward the conveyor at the right hand end of the machine as shown in Fig. 1, is thrown considerably above that end of the conveyor, and therefore acts to clean the upper per tions or the upper surface of o. dish or other article placed in position upon the conveyor. As the revolutionci the conveyor continues carrying the article to lie cleaned up the incline relative to the paddle-wheel, the amount of water being forced above the article to be cleaned gradually decreases, and a. greater portion of the water forced toward the convc'yer by the forward end of tho paddlcovhcel is thrown upward against the lower portion or surface of the article upon the conveyor. Thus by reason of the inclination of the conveyor relative to the pad die-Wheel, a more thorough cleaning isotfccted than could otherwise be attained.

It willbc understood that I do not restrict myself to the specific embodiment of my invention shown and described, except as hereinafter specifically claimed, my invcntion including generically the subject matter of the broader claims.

As will be rcadilv understood, my device is not limited to use for washing dishes, inasmuch as it is designed for cleaning dishes or any other articles adapted to be [and moved along a tank, such as automobile mud-guards, running-boards, or other parts which it is desired to have cleaned.

That which I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by LettersPatent, is,- 1- A. Washing machine comprising a tank, means for supporting articles *hile they are moved longitudinally of the tank, and means disposed diagonally with reference to said supporting means and ar ranged to throw water'laterally above and upon one portion of said supportingnieans, and below and against the under side of another portion thereof.

A Washing machine comprising a tank, supporting means extending longitudinally of the tank in an inclined plane for supporting articles to be Washed While they are moved longitudinally of the tank, and horizontally arranged water throwing means disposed laterally with reference to said supporting means-and adapted by reason of the inc'linaton of said supporting means to throw Water laterally above and upon one portion thereof and below and against the under side of another portion thereof.
