Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Mosns G. NORTON, a
' citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Key Locks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in locking devices for keys, and has particular relation to means for holding a key in a look, so that it cannot be removed therefrom by unauthorized parties, and so that it cannot be turned in the key hole for pushing it out, and further so that no one can insert an instrument in the key hole while the lock is in place.'
It is an object of the invention to supply a key lock provided with means for inclosing and positively holding the bow or handle of a key and also having a key shank receiv ing means, and a key hole engaging portion.
It is also an object of the invention-to provide a key lock made from a single piece of material and shaped to engage a key hole and hold the key therein.
It is a further object of the invention to provide a key holding lock device having locking means adapted to'fold over the bow of the key, locking'mea'ns being also provided for grasping the bow or handle of the key whereby the key cannot turn in the key hole or be removed therefrom.-
. It is still a further object of the invention to provide a key lock having means for gripping the bow of'the key, an auxiliary lock for'preventi'ng the disengaging of the device from the said key bow, whereby the key can be prevented from removal, whether the said key be located upon the inside or outside of a door or look.
With these and other objects in view the invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts as will hereinafter be more" fully described and claimed. "In the accompanying drawing forming a .part of this specification:

The device of the present invention is designed to aflord simple means for holding a key within a look, so that the key cannot beremoved and cannot be turned so as to unfasten the lock. The device is also capable of holding the key so that it cannot be removed by unauthorized parties, either from the outside of a door or from the inside thereof, that is to say the key is secure in'the lock whether it can be reached from the key side or from the other side of the lock or door.
The details and features of the invention will. now be more particularly described, reference being had to the accompanying drawing,in which practical embodiments of the invention have been disclosed. In said drawing in which 5 indicates a key bow engaging a plate, 6 a key hole engaging and filling portion, and 7 a plate for clamping the bow or handle of the key in position on said plate 5. The plate 5 may be made integral with the key hole portion 6 and the connecting portion between the two parts may be folded upon itself to form standards or key engaging projections 8. A. space at 9 is cut away at the central portion of said standard to form a recess to receive the stem 10 of a key. The portion forming the key hole engaging portion 6 is preferably folded upon itself to give a double thickness at 4 to the portion which extends into the 'key hole whereby it is given a proper width to substantially fill the key-hole and also a proper stiffness to prevent the inserting of tools and implements of any kind for acting upon the key in any way. The locking piece or member 7 may be hinged at 11 to the outer edge of the plate 5, and it is preferably bent at 12 so that the body portion of said member may extend parallel with the plate 5 over the bow 13 of the key 14.
The locking plate piece or member 7 may,-
carry a key operated lock 15 by which it may be lockedin position for preventing the manipulation of the inclosed key in any Way. The said plate is:iusually'provided" opened =by unauthorized parties.- The lock 15 is preferablyof a flat type'which will notrequire a great dealof room within'vthe locking piece or 1nember*7, and can onlybe operated by a person having a key that'will fit the lock. 7 permits the insertioirof a 'key for operatingthesaid lock 15. One of the said looking end portions as 48 has outwardly bent projecting portions or shoulders 49 to limit the inward movement of the hook 50 upon the other jaw. The end of the hook l8 outside the shoulder 49 is narrow enough to extend into the hook 50 of the other jaw. These hooks may be readily separated, and after springing them over the edge of the key bow they may be hooked together as shown in Fig. 8. The stem of the key rests in a space 51 between the said jaws. If desired an auxiliary lock of any kind, as for instance, a pad lock may have its shackle passed around and through the hooks 48 and 50, for locking the device and preventing its operation by unauthorized parties.
It will thus be evident that the key lock of this invention may be formed in several ways, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
It will be understood of course that in either form of the device the key hole engaging member may be made of a piece of material struck up and shaped as shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3, or of wire folded double as shown in Fig. 8, and that the jaws 46 and 47 may be used with either type of key hole engaging tongue as may be preferred.
What is claimed is:
1. A key lock of the character referred to,
comprising a key-receiving member having a portion adapted to be inserted with the key into a key hole, and having a key-actuated locking mechanism adapted to inclose the bow of a key and to lock the key and the key receiving member together against unauthorized manipulation or removal of said key from its lock, substantially as described.
2. In combination with a lock and key therefor, a key-locking device adapted to be inserted with said key into said lock, and having a part for inclosing the bow of a key, and a keyectuated lock for locking said keylock to said key, whereby to prevent the manipulation or removal of said key from its lock, substantially as described.
3. lln combination with a lock and key therefor, a key-locking device comprising a body having a portion adapted to be inserted with said key into its lock, and having a key-bow-receiving portion adapted to inclose the same to prevent the turning of said key, and a key-actuated-locking means for locking said key-bow-receiving portion to said key-bow, whereby to prevent the removal or turning of said key in its lock.
